Post-doctoral position in sensors, conductive and electroactive textiles

The University of Borås and the University of Skövde has received funds from the Västra Götaland region for strategic research collaboration. In the area of design, textiles and sustainable development, the project management team decided on the appointment of four postdocs.The objective of the initiative is to establish an open, dynamic, and durable ecosystem for research, innovation and education in Smart Textiles. The initiative builds on the domains of strength at the University of Borås (design and textile technology in smart textiles) and University of Skövde (advanced information systems and models) enabling both universities to maintain and to extend their leading role in those domains, thereby strengthening long term competitiveness and innovation potential of Swedish textile industry as well as novel application areas for textiles.

Research in this domain will emphasize on the development of electro-active textiles, with a focus on application of conductive polymers, conductive coatings and inkjet inks on textile materials as well as textile performance and maintenance, industrialization of production and assembly of smart textiles. Therefore thorough knowledge of the special characteristics of textiles, textile processing and textile treatments are required. Knowledge of minimal application technologies and development of inkjet inks, coatings or electroactive textiles is a plus.

The postdoctoral position involves the establishment of new research initiatives and new collaborations in the strategic research theme Smart Textiles, set-up between University of Borås and University of Skövde. Due to the specific characteristics of the program the candidate is a true team-player, which can initiate new research initiatives. The post-docs appointed in the initiative are expected to develop activities at both universities and maximum 20% lecturing, within related research area, may be included.

To be considered for appointment, the applicant is required to hold a PhD in textile engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, or physical chemistry with a focus on functional or smart textiles, which may not have completed more than three years prior to the end of the application period. There may, however, be special circumstances which may allow an applicant to be appointed for the position although he/she completed his/her PhD at an earlier date. The University's Working hours agreement for teaching staff applies to this position.

The candidate should also have documented experience regarding composite materials and/or textile materials.The candidate should be able to demonstrate very good communication skills in English, both orally and in writing and should have documented good collaborative and communicative skills.

Since much work is done in a multi-disciplinary environment, experience of joint project work is also a qualifying merit. Knowledge of minimal application technologies and development of inkjet inks, coatings or electroactive textiles is a plus. Experience as supervisor of PhD students is also a merit.
