The Electrical Valve Design department is a part of Hitachi Energy HVDC Products in Ludvika. We as a department are globally responsible for electrical design and requirements of HVDC and SVC valves. HVDC valves are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa. SVC valves are used in SVC systems, in order to support and stabilize AC systems. Electrical valves are the heart of a HVDC and SVC transmission system.
The Electrical Valve Design department in Sweden consists of 20 employees including the manager. We also have electrical design departments in India and China, who we work in close collaboration with. Our department is not only responsible for tenders and project deliveries but also for productification of new valve solutions, life cycle management and provide technical support in upgrades & service projects.
Power capacitors are widely used and are becoming essential components in modern HVDC and SVC systems. Their main function is to provide temporary energy storage to allow for more controllability and widen the application range of these systems. These power capacitors today are externally sourced; therefore, electrical valve design department will continually need to increase knowledge of design, manufacturing and testing of these essential components to be able to specify the correct requirements towards our suppliers. This is of essence to ensure that we can stay on top of the continuous developments in demands from our customers on lower costs but at the same time have highly reliable and performant HVDC and SVC systems.
Your responsibilities
Create requirement specifications for power capacitors in HVDC and SVC systems
Lead technical qualification of power capacitors both in R&D and in delivery projects
Create and maintain processes for quality control both at supplier and in our workshop for power capacitors
Create and maintain processes for life-cycle management of power capacitors
Lead technical audits of power capacitors
Specify testing requirements to ensure that tests are performed according to standards and other application specific tests that might be required to deliver high quality products to our customers

Your background
You hold at least a Bachelor of Science and preferably a Master of Science in Engineering
You have many years of experience with design, manufacturing and testing of power capacitors. It is a plus if you have worked with HVDC and SVC applications of power capacitors
Good knowledge of engineering tools such as Matlab, Mathcad, PSCAD, PSpice, COMSOL or ANSYS, etc.
Fluency in English is required, and Swedish is highly valued
You are team player who is not hesitant in communicating with people
You are natural problem solver who enjoys challenges and are open-minded and straightforward in the communication
