Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. Where You’ll Belong
Volvo Cars have created world-changing innovations since the first Volvo rolled off the production line in 1927. Now we just launched our first-generation battery electric vehicles; the XC40 and C40 Recharge and are committed to putting one million electrified cars on the road by 2025!
The newly created department Power Electronics designs the brain of the Electric Vehicle propulsion system - The Traction inverter HW & SW as well as power conversion and charger units. Are you a Power Electronics Designer that thrives from working by trial and error sharing our aim to create the world’s best electric drive systems? Then you should take the chance to join our young, still shaping, team.
We promise you, colleagues, with high energy and competence as well as the opportunity to work on tech at the forefront – together we break new ground within the automotive industry! We deliver products with high attention to sustainability and energy efficiency that we are proud of and make sure that we have fun on the journey.
Your Contribution
You will design traction inverter power electronics and perform modeling and simulations on both electronic circuit level and system level including multi-physics (electrical, thermal, mechanical etc). You will also work on circuit topology design on HV and LV side as well as perform analysis of components; sizing and selection for semiconductors as well as passives.
Further, gathering and documenting knowledge in design documentation such as schematics, design descriptions and design guidelines will also be among your tasks. You will take part in test and verification activities including fault-tracing, bring-up and regular test case verification on component and board levels together with our testers.
Finally, you are expected to share knowledge and experiences with other team members.
Competence is Important
We believe you have a university degree in Electrical Engineering or similar, preferably in power electronics. You also possess knowledge in modern electronics design and simulation tools such as Matlab, Simulink, PLECS, PSpice, Altium or ANSYS.
Knowledge in inverter controls algorithms and prototyping equipment will be considered meritorious.
Personality is Key
All Volvo Cars design work is carried out in Agile design teams. Being a team player with utilizing efficient collaboration with team members and other stakeholders is therefore a key enabler to succeed in the role.
