Arbetsbeskrivning
Ready to shape tomorrow’s society together with us?
Within the technology stream Vehicle Motion and Energy Management, we develop system solutions and functionalities for Vehicle Dynamics, Vehicle Motion management and Driver assistance. These solutions must be safe, efficient and robust.
Are you ready to join our team as a thesis worker and be part of shaping the future of the transportation industry with us?
This is how you could make an impact
Electric drives have grown significantly in popularity during the last years and aims at becoming the new standard mode of propulsion. Utilizing electric drives allows for more flexibility in the powertrain design and improve vehicle performance. A distributed powertrain architecture consisting of two separate e-axles was introduced, with the goal of maximizing the driving range.
The aim with Master thesis is to extend on the previous work in steer by propulsion with different torque vectoring strategies:
1. Identify the influence of torque vectoring on lateral vehicle performance like under and over steering for different road surface conditions. Based on the results formulate the use cases where torque vectoring can improve and decrease lateral performance.
2. Torque vectoring - based control strategies based on control allocation and their performance evaluation within linear vehicle performance range. For e.g., steering angle and yaw rate-based control.
3. Analyse the combined influence of power steering and torque vectoring on vehicle lateral performance. Evaluation of the total power consumption would also be beneficial.
4. Evaluation of torque vectoring based lateral vehicle performance for different vehicle configurations with distributed propulsion.
The thesis work will include control theory and real time optimization. Personal hobby or interest in programming real time systems is seen as benefit. The work will be carried out at Volvo Group Trucks Technology. The thesis is recommended for one or two students with control analysis profile with good mathematical skills.
Thesis start: Jan 2022
