Principal Engineer for Battery Module Design at Electromobility

The Electromobility Department is responsible for developing electromobility solutions and to secure a stepwise implementation in different segments/regions. This organization develop and drives the electromobility product portfolio for Trucks & Buses as well as creating opportunities for all business areas within the Volvo Group. The importance of electromobility is growing every day and a key component within the electrified powertrain is the Energy Storage System (ESS). At our section, we are accountable for the lifecycle management of the ESS, from advanced engineering, throughout product development into the maintenance phase.
To ESS Section we are now recruiting a Principal Engineer for the Module Design Group
The module team is responsible for the development of battery modules and to build world-class knowledge in battery module design and related technology areas such as materials, light weight design, electrical components, and cooling. The knowledge building includes the associated manufacturing processes of modules.

Responsibilities / Main tasks
As Principal Engineer you will be the technical leader for the module design, defining requirements for the modules with input from the System Architect/Engineering team and other stakeholders. You will break down ESS performance and usage, safety, and durability into appropriate module-level requirements and define module verification items and conditions. You will also be responsible for the teams’ backlog and prioritization activities as well as defining the module development roadmap and decide on appropriate research activities.
Who are you?
To be successful in this position you need to be a technical team leader with strong collaboration/networking skills and have the analytic mindset of a true problem solver. You have extensive experience in Li-ion battery development and design.
For this position, we believe you meet the following qualifications:
Master of Science in Chemical, Physics, Electrical, Mechanical and Materials Engineering or equivalent
Several years experience of lithium-ion battery design & development
Experience as a technical leader or an Agile product owner
Excellent understanding of Li-ion battery technologies/systems within the application of electric vehicles
Knowledgeable about overall battery system design and architecture, particularly about mechanical and thermal design for optimized overall battery performance
Good understanding of homologation and legal requirements
Knowledgeable about manufacturing of cells and battery modules
Fluent in both written and spoken English
