Principal Java Engineer

Role Description:
Jeeves Information Systems is looking for a heads down Java and mobility specialist to lead the implementation of major technical advances to create our next generation cloud-based ecommerce offering. The position requires the creation of detailed designs for key platform enhancements along with the mentoring of offshore engineering teams on the implementation of these capabilities. In this position you will prototype new technologies and methods, provide feedback and recommendations to engineering management on the viability of various options, and participate in the decision making process about engineering direction. This position requires a business oriented technologist with excellent communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and deep technical design expertise with significant experience in Java, HTML, mobility, and ecommerce.

Compensation:

Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include:
- Work with architecture management to understand application requirements, create platform technical designs, and guide staff in the implementation of these designs.
- Research new technologies and create designs to integrate these technologies into the existing applications, platforms, and processes.
- Ensure the quality of the product by evaluating and improving testing and documentation efforts.
- Screen, interview, select, and train senior engineers.
- Advise R&D leadership and senior business executives about technology and process matters.
- Provide leadership, direction and coaching to engineers for their professional development.

Secondary responsibilities include:
- Take ownership and delivery responsibility for special projects and company initiatives.
- Present technical information on products, projects, initiatives, and other subjects to peers, teams, and upper management.
- Assume a leadership role in educating the business and technical community on technology, technical processes, and other areas of expertise.
- This position requires occasional travel to our offshore development center in Bangalore India.

Qualifications:
- 5+ years development experience in Java, HTML, JavaScript, and MS SQL Server.
- 5+ years development experience with ecommerce and mobile applications.
- 2+ years in Agile development.

Additional Experience:
- Appreciation for and basic understanding of all engineering disciplines and technologies.
- Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to deliver high value products in a team environment.
- Experience with Java concepts such as Spring, OSGi, and web services.
- Experience generating high level designs for implementations.
- Strong technical leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working on enterprise scale product development with distributed teams operating internationally is a major bonus for this position.
