Principal Network Design Engineer

Infinera has a Network Planning position open within the Network Solutions Group (NSG). This person will play a key role in analyzing different carrier networking environments and in the development of optimized solutions, working closely with Marketing, Sales, Optical and Software Engineering departments.
Your Key Responsibilities Would Include:
Support for RFP/RFQ Network Design responses and network optimization
Serve as Subject Matter Expert and provide planning and support for the field in network planning, implementation, and deployment activities
Develop and research vendor and internal technical specifications to determine appropriate products, facilities and functionality
Utilize knowledge of network transition strategies to determine optimal architecture design for new products and platforms
Develop tools to enable sales engineers to design and optimize network responses
Development of back office systems to store and report on network designs
Analysis of network designs & economic impacts of different roadmap candidate features to build business cases
Economic analysis of various networking architectural approaches and models, along with analysis of the applicability of emerging networking Technologies

Qualification and Experience:
Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics is required, a PhD degree is preferred.
10+ years of relevant industry experience, 3+ years of experience with 3rd party network design or optimization tools highly desirable.
Working knowledge of carrier-class networking architectures and systems, including WDM and data/packet (IP/MPLS/ L2, L2.5 & L3 Solutions).
Functional experience within either sales engineering or product management.
Experience writing scripts in Excel, Matlab, Perl etc.
Experience with commercial planning tools like OPNET, VPISystems, RSoft, Wandl, Cariden.
Candidates who do not meet the criteria for qualifications and experience but with demonstrable technical ability will also be considered.

Skills:
Technical Skills
Strong Layer-2/2.5 network design skills mandatory.
Layer-3 packet/data networking (IP/MPLS) experience is highly desirable.
Optical link budget engineering and analysis.
Capacity Planning optimization.
Familiarity with current standards and trends.
Software experience with excellent scripting, Excel and SQL experience is a must.
Familiarity with Relational Databases, Perl, C++, Java, Visual Basic, .net etc., is desirable.

Qualified candidates for this position must have ability to work independently and with remote teams, possess strong problem definition and problem solving skills, demonstrate good judgment in addition they must have strong analytical skills, excellent written and communication skills, attention to detail and be able to rapidly prioritize and provide rapid responses to internal and external customers.
