Pharmaceutical Sciences is a function within the AstraZeneca's Biopharmaceuticals R&D unit and that creates innovative, cost effect solutions by transforming molecules into investigative medicines meeting unmet needs of future patients. The function has five departments: Early Chemical Development, Advanced Drug Delivery, Early Product Development and Manufacturing, Digitisation & Data Science and Modelling. Our wide-ranging portfolio of projects includes traditional small molecules, nucleotide-based therapies and nanomedicines across AstraZeneca's therapy areas. Working across diverse skills set & departments a small number of exciting opportunities have arisen for Digital Champions to own and drive the future of our product, analytical and drug delivery data, processes & systems.

We are now looking for an experienced scientist interested in leading digital transformation to join us within Advanced Drug Delivery. The role can be based at our R&D site in Gothenburg, Sweden or at our site in Boston, US.



The role:

This position is within Advanced Drug Delivery, a department working to transform diverse modalities into investigational medicines from discovery - Ph II. This position will in particular focus on driving digital innovation for our oligonucleotide portfolio in strong collaboration with the Digitisation department. The Digitisation department is focused on digitally transforming ways of workings: delivering solutions that improve productivity and ensuring the complex experimental data Pharmaceutical Science teams and partners generate flows seamlessly to be available for data science & modelling

You will have the responsibility for the creation of a vision & clear roadmap focused on how data generated internally & externally is structured, stored & reused across Pharmaceutical Sciences. You will bring a strong understanding of pharmaceutical development as well as a passion for and/or experience of driving digital change.

Typical Accountabilities

Leadership of Digital transformation collaborating across Pharmaceutical Sciences, IT & the wider AstraZeneca community
*

Responsibility for the creation of a vision & clear roadmap focused on how data generated internally & externally is structured, stored & reused.
*

Facilitate, lead or bring a strong delivery contribution to in-progress digital projects as appropriate - for example driving the development & deployment of new experimental capture & registration systems.
*

Drive change working across the department to ensure new ways of working are fully embedded
*

Work with Data Science & Modelling teams to define AI, ML & visualisation priorities and identify impactful quicker wins & ensure these are appropriately prioritised
*

Continuously develop yourself and your colleagues via training and sharing learning experiences to improve our efficiency and effectiveness
*

Build an understanding of the external environment & bring appropriate concepts & tools in house.
*

Contribute to scientific & digital leadership in the department through internal & external publications & presentations.



Required Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

*

Master Degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related discipline
*

Demonstrated experience of working within a pharmaceutical discovery and/or development environment
*

Experience working as a Drug Delivery, Formulation or Analytical Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Industry
*

A strong communicator with ability to empathise with lab-based scientists & the skills to build a clear picture of needs & pain points. Appreciation of pharmaceutical related IT systems and how they support development processes
*

Interest in digital science, digital strategies and projects, independent thinker with a self-motivated drive to define and implement new strategies and projects



Desired Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

*

PhD degree in Chemistry Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or related discipline
*

Experience working as a Drug Delivery, Formulation or Analytical Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Industry with an emphasis on oligonucleotides
*

Proven experience in digital science, digital strategies and projects, Strong influencing and prioritization skills to ensure project delivery
