ESS (Energy Storage System)
At ESS we strive to develop world class batteries for different applications within Volvo group. Our aim is to always deliver the most competitive ESS on the market. We are responsible for the battery lifecycle, from advanced engineering, throughout product development into service and maintenance.
Principal Mechanical architect role
As a principal mechanical architect, you will work in the mechanical design team. We are responsible for the structural design of the battery housing and service box. You will lead the team into the next generation of world class structural design, define the technical solutions and ensure that we meet the system design requirements for the battery housing and service box. The group is also responsible for breathing, venting and for mechanical interface to installation and together with installation defines battery matrix solution. You will inspire the team to be in the forefront of battery design and you will balance and optimize the design on a system level.
Some of the responsibilities are to:
Work as “chief engineer” for the Mechanical Design team.
Assign the “technical agenda” for a specific project.
Be involved in early phases and concepts.
Be responsible for the team’s roadmap.
Lead and prioritize technical innovations and benchmarking activities – Advanced Engineering.
Lead proof of value and proof of concept internally and together with external partners.
Be responsible for defining sub-system requirements (in requirement tools) and ensuring that they are met later in the project.
Lead development activities with stakeholders from different technical disciplines and from different cultures.
Who you need to be:
You need to have a deep knowledge of structural battery design and have vast experience of leading battery technology teams.
You need to have a great understanding of manufacturing technologies and system simulations.
A leader who inspires our engineers to be the best at structural battery design and a role model in design engineering and material technology.
Great in communication because you will present system recommendations and strategies on different management levels and engineering forums.
Very self-motivated, a self-starter and a true problem solver.
Good at prioritizing your time for what is important.
You need to be able to quickly understand technology; you are structured and have a good ability to plan your individual work.
Somebody that thinks widely, outside ESS and Volvo Group, gets inspiration and thinks creatively.
You need to have a Master of science in engineering/ PhD or equivalent technical knowledge and several years’ experience in different leading mechanical engineering preferably as Product Owner or Principal engineer within battery development.
