About the Team

The Data & Platforms domain at Storytel enables the entire business to be more productive, innovative, compliant, and make informed choices based on strong data. We’re split into three main areas; Infrastructure, Developer Services, and Data & Machine Learning.

We want to be excellent when it comes to protecting our users’ privacy, and the responsible use of their data is important to us. Therefore we are looking for an experienced Privacy Engineer that will help bridge the gap between legal compliance and policies, and technical implementation and improvement.

About the Role

As a Privacy Engineer at Storytel, your main mission will be to ensure that our users’ privacy is protected, and their data is kept safe. You will accomplish this by maintaining, evolving, and improving current privacy procedures at Storytel, identifying gaps and the need for further implementation. Often, you will advise and assist teams in the technical implementation of privacy routines in all areas where our users’ data resides. You will also work closely with our legal team in order to manage incidents, queries, and data subjects requests across all of Storytel.

Collaboration will be key in everything you do, and therefore humbleness and strong ability in verbal and written communication are of utmost importance.

You will primarily be working with:

Taking the role as the Data Protection Coordinator (DPC) for Tech within the DPC network managed by DPO/Security.

Driving the development of data protection/privacy features and tools, used by our other teams, implement some of the smaller ones on your own, and identify the larger needs for Tech at Storytel

Identifying areas of improvement in practices, tooling, and infrastructure related to data privacy within Tech

Taking ownership as a key stakeholder of key systems and processes within privacy and data subject rights functionality such as GDPR deletion, consent management, data extraction, external privacy requirements, and more

Collaborating closely with teams to ensure data privacy principles are considered baked in their features throughout all of product development

Advocating for and evangelizing a privacy-first approach, as well as privacy best practices, to the entire Tech organization

Assessing our processes and tech to identify and escalate data privacy concerns for the Tech org.

Collaborating with non-technical stakeholders such as the Legal/DPO to set data protection processes

Assisting other departments such as Legal/DPO in the resolution of incidents, queries, and initiatives

About you:

We are looking for someone that Is excited about finding new ways of improving our users’ privacy, and constantly evaluates current practices, systems, and processes. You should be passionate about working in fast-paced global environments. It is very important that you are an excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing.

To be successful in the role we believe that you:

Currently working as a privacy engineer at a medium/large company in the B2C sector.

Enjoy caring for and fighting for our users’ privacy, and has done so as a DPC or DPO before.

Is strategic and visionary, not afraid to push the envelope, and question the status quo.

Has experience with training tech teams, engineering managers, and product managers about best practices and a privacy-first approach.

Has led several process and technical changes across multiple teams, to achieve compliance requirements.
