Process Engineer

Arbetsbeskrivning

Imagine what we could learn if we could build a machine so powerful that it could look deep inside the very materials that the universe is made from. A device that could actually let us see the atoms and molecules that make up the structure of substances. Imagine the new discoveries we could make, the new materials we could develop and how much we could learn about ourselves and our universe.

The European Spallation Source is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, 15 state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a supercomputing data management and software development centre. In the context of its history and future as a scientific organisation, however, it is more than the sum of its parts. It is a brand new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up.

Come and build the future of Science with us!

About the role:

The ESS is at an exciting turning point. It is in transition from being a construction site, to being an operating facility. To help us realise our goal of being the most powerful neutron source in the world, we are now looking for a Process Engineer, who will become part of our Target Division.

The Target Division is part of the Technical Directorate, with responsibility to design, develop, procure, install, commission and test the systems needed to convert the energetic proton beam coming from the accelerator, to neutron beams that are utilised for experiments.

Your main responsibilities and tasks will include:

• Taking responsibility for several different systems within the Target station, with focus on integrated testing with other systems included in the Target Station. It means taking part in the commissioning of the systems and the interfaces between systems.
• Preparation and updating of technical documentation related to these systems and their components, e.g. technical specifications, data sheets, process and instrumentation diagrams, functional descriptions, operational and maintenance manuals, etc.
• Working in collaboration with the technicians who are performing the actual physical work on the components, both during commissioning as well as during maintenance. You will also work closely together with the controls engineers and the control room staff.
• Collaborating with the radiation protection officers as well as the waste engineers, as the primary cooling systems will contain radioactive fluids.
• Supporting other disciplines and subcontractors with related issues, reviewing documents from subcontractors and handling process and other engineering related questions.

This is a permanent position based in Lund, Sweden.

About you:

For this role we have the following requirements:

• M.Sc. or similar degree, in Process Engineering or similar relevant area.
• Several years of working experience from a similar position, i.e. process design work with different types of process systems or operation of process systems, including maintenance planning and optimisation.
• Experience from industry such as oil and gas, nuclear or pulp and paper.
• Experience from working in an international environment.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.

Apart from the above, it would be preferable with some or all of the following:

• Experience in writing and reviewing technical documentation in English.
• Good knowledge in common norms and standards applicable for process and mechanical engineering and design, specifically PED.
• Experience from development of commissioning or maintenance programs.
• Knowledge of Swedish.

This role is suitable for someone who is curious and eager to learn new things in a changing, dynamic environment. You enjoy communicating and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. You also have strong organisational and planning skills, and an analytical and problem-solving mind.

What can we offer?

Aside from the chance to work at a truly unique "Big Science" project, you can also expect:

• An opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, exciting and fast-paced work environment.
• Market competitive compensation that is individual and differentiated according to role, responsibilities, individual skills, abilities and achievements.
• 30 days of annual leave, as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
• Monthly pension contributions on top of your salary.
• Flexible working arrangements and a real work-life balance.

Interested? We sure hope so.
