Job Description
Are you a senior tech leader passionate about creating customer and business value using modern technology? We are now looking for a Product Area Lead Engineer to lead our Digital Checkout product area within the Customer domain of our H&M Business Tech organization.
About this Product Area:
Digital Checkout’s mission is to provide a seamless and efficient digital checkout experience for our customers, built on modern, decoupled common omni-capabilities usable across any touchpoint. Working closely with collaboration partners within Business Tech and across the company, your teams will ensure we understand the needs of both our customers and our store colleagues to develop and deploy solutions that deliver an exceptional experience and achieve the ambition of our healthy, relevant store portfolio. The area is responsible for supporting all brands and regions across the H&M Group.
As Product Area Lead Engineer, you work with a focus to lead the technical development, architecture and engineering practices, and the required transformation to take it to the next level.
You will co-lead the Digital Checkout product area, currently consisting of 9 product teams (approximately 80 people), together with the Product Area Manager. You will have staff responsibility/direct reports for all Competence Leads for Software Engineers in the area, supporting their growth and development as well as recruiting new talent. Together with your co-lead, you will support the product teams in your area to take a more customer-centric, agile approach (e.g., taking data-driven decisions, practicing a hypothesis-led approach).
Your responsibilities will include:
Responsible for overall engineering and technology architecture definition and decisions in the area, according to Enterprise Architecture guidelines
Monitor vendors and market regularly for the latest technology and best practices
Work with Enabling platform teams to secure efficient usage of technology platforms
Own engineering quality and accountable for technical standards and systems in your product area
Responsible to provide input to QBR on critical technology priorities that will enable continued product development and scaling
Ensure technical teams understand the overall direction, vision, delivery process and responsibilities for any given initiative
Drive consistency in practice, process, toolset, and architecture within the area
Responsibility for overall work environment of your team including creating an explorative environment and culture that embraces acting, learning, and adapting



Qualifications

We also believe that you have:
The ability to successfully lead an organization with 80-100 employees and 8-10 product teams
At least 5+ years in a technical leadership/managerial position developing and scaling software products preferably from a larger retail industry, driving modern and efficient digital & omni experiences, and preferably successful checkout solutions
Familiarity and interest in the customer and retail and e-com trends
Proven advanced training in information technology, computer science or equivalent
Deep knowledge in modern architecture principles and distributed systems (e.g. API first, cloud-native modular application design, microservices, test automation, CI/CD and DevOps), interest in the latest technology trends as well as experience in modernization approaches and migration patterns.
Ability to understand the complexity of H&M business and the role of foundational technology as an integrated part of the business.
Consistent track record of creating customer and business value through modern technology, including experience working with OKRs
Superb communication and collaboration skills, with experience bringing together multiple stakeholders across teams to align on a common mission
Fluency in business English.
