Once upon a time BILLY, MÄRIT, TRÅDFRI and all their siblings in the IKEA range was born, or the idea of these products at least! Behind our whole range there is a lot of hard work from our many skilled Engineers, and a lot of them started their career just like a Product Lifecycle Engineer (PLE). Working as a Product Lifecycle Engineer is a good way to get to know the IKEA way of working and be close to the core of our product development!
The IKEA product range is designed to be functional, great looking, affordable, of good quality and sustainable. This is what we call Democratic Design and it´s a true team effort to make it happen! Our development teams consist of many different roles, such as Technical Project Leader, Requirement Specialist, Designer etc. And this is where you as a Product Lifecycle Engineer come into the picture as well!
What is the role all about?
The Product Lifecycle Engineer is an important player in the team, with responsibility to take care of and maintain our products. This is not just a way of saying. The Product Lifecycle Engineer is one of the roles in our product development teams who is securing that everything is connected in a good way, so the impact is real and deep. You will be doing this by taking part in improvement projects, as well as handle administration, documentation, and verification activities. It´s about securing that our product information is up-to-date and according to IKEA documentation guidelines and standards. You will work closely with the engineers in the product development teams, as well as have a close dialogue with the purchasing organisation and suppliers to secure for the successful product-implementation. In your work you will be cooperating with several teams and product areas in parallel.
You will be the one identifying gaps in product documentation – and the one closing them. It will be a highly rewarding work. And yes, it will be a lot of fun!
Who are we looking for?
You are an Engineer in the beginning of your career, with a university degree in Engineering or equivalent. You have some experience in working with product development and/or creation and maintenance of product documentation. Your knowledge in 3D drawings and SolidWorks will be considered as an added advantage. You work in a structured way with analytical skills and to take the lead in your own work, as well as in your contacts with internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, you have strong communication skills and building good relations based on trust. IKEA of Sweden is a truly global environment, with colleagues from all over the world and you therefore need to be fluent in English both verbal and written.
The first step into our organisation
You will start you journey at IKEA by being employed to a team of 3 Product Lifecycle Engineers. During your first time at with us you will step in and support different Business Areas, when they are having different kinds of peaks in their activities. This will let you get to know our organisation and way of working in a good way. The goal is to give you the right prerequisites for a permanent position in any of our Business Areas later on.
