WELCOME TO UTOPIA
Music is incredible. It can excite hundreds, and unite thousands. But as an industry, it has been slow, complicated, and disparate. While the tech world has moved into the future, the music industry continues to be shaped by inefficient systems of the past. At Utopia we believe there is a better way. Which is why today we are setting out to transform the entire industry; creating new revenue streams, consolidating the data and decluttering the admin. Unlocking the industry’s full potential by unifying it all in one truly holistic space. Some might call that a Utopia.
Funnily enough, so do we. Welcome to Utopia. Where music lives.
WHAT UTOPIANS DO
The open secret is that the music industry is struggling with the very basics of music accounting: What was played, when and where? Who should get paid and how much?
Utopia Music is bridging the data gap by connecting global consumption, accurate metadata, and fast payments to an industry-wide trust platform. Our goal is to unlock creative value and enable Fair Pay For Every Play to make a better world for Music. The solutions we offer do not threaten to usurp the role of industry incumbents - it is about bringing transparency in the industry and supporting efficient royalty collection for all.
THE ROLE
We are looking to add a Product Manager to the Utopia Platform business unit for our Consumption Data Pipeline (CDP) team. CDP takes records of a song being played somewhere (on radio, TV, online, etc.), identifies the song, enriches the record of plays with reference metadata, and collates and rationalizes Utopia’s many sources of these plays. Ultimately, CDP provides a clean, coherent record of what music was played where to the products teams that provide services to Utopia's customers. You will have responsibility for driving the product strategy for Utopia’s CDP services.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience delivering cloud based software solutions that tackle the processing of large volumes of data. They will possess a strong inner drive to delight users, enjoy working with some of the smartest professionals in the industry, and are excited to be a part of something truly unique that will have a lasting impact on the music industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Group Product Manager for Consumptions, your responsibilities, together with your team and peers across design, data, engineering and business will include:
- Setting product vision and product strategy for the CDP product, and own the product success to seek Fair Pay for Every Play on music platforms
- Defining, communicating and debating strategy with senior executives across Utopia
- Together with the Platform Product Area, setting OKRs and breaking these down into tangible targets
- Driving the product roadmap and creating well-defined user stories to ensure Product team can successfully deliver desired outcomes

- Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Data, Commercial, and other Utopia Product teams to align, synergise, share and grow the team and Utopia mission
- Promoting and evangelizing the CDP objectives within your area and acting as an informal leader to move the product team towards success and growth
- Leading while listening, ensuring that you have alignment within the team and that they are up to date on our why and where we are going
- Collaborating with other product teams to create alignment in scalable solutions that aim for Fair Pay for Every Play
