Preventing fatal accidents as Product Manager in Volvo Cars Core Computing Platform R&D
We strive to build the world's greenest and safest autonomous EV. We imagine that this green self-driving vehicle will be so safe that it is allowed to drive our kids to school. The amount of software in our future vehicles is by far exceeding many other software critical products and businesses. We tend to see the future cars as a computer on wheels. To orchestrate such a huge software centric system, we both need a computer that is powerful enough to carry all feature from control loops, to AI/Machine Learning capabilities.
The brain in this platform will be a Core Computer with the capacity to carry a vast majority of electric control units and applications in the car. This new centralized signal system aims to enable optimized software architecture and continuous deployment for further development as well as over the air data updates and real-time decision-making for autonomous drive.
About our R&D - Core System Software
We work with a-state-of-the-art embedded multiprocessor environment from Nvidia including hypervisors, Linux, QNX, Rust and other modern technologies. We are building the base software on the Core Computer to refine computational power and to enable successful integration with applications. Our teams work in an agile manner organized according to SAFe to be able to quickly adjust to changing requirements. The efficiency of our department is fundamental for succeeding to build the coming Volvo Cars platforms. Therefore, we are facing a stage where we will crystalize our current ART with +200 members into three ARTs.
