Product Requirement Engineer Comfort IKEA of Sweden

Once upon a time TUSTNA, EKTORP, STRANDMON and all their Comfort siblings in the IKEA range were born, or the idea of these products at least! Behind our whole range there is a lot of hard work from our many skilled Engineers, and a lot of them started their career just like a Product Requirement Engineer (PRE). Working as a PRE is a good way to get to know the IKEA way of working and be close to the core of our product development! 

The IKEA product range is designed to be functional, great looking, affordable, of good quality and sustainable. This is what we call Democratic Design and it´s a true team effort to make it happen! Our development teams consist of many different roles, such as Technical Project Leader, Mechanical Design Engineer, Designer etc. And this is where you as a PRE come into the picture as well! 

What is the role all about? 

The PRE is an important player in the team, when it comes to identifying and creating product requirements forming the end products, with an aim to ensure that our products will meet all the legal standards and the customer specific prerequisite. We would say that the impact is real and deep. You will be doing this by defining and creating product requirements for end products and take part in reviewing prototypes to define product validation tests during the development phase. Furthermore, it´s about securing that our product information is up-to-date and according to IKEA documentation guidelines and standards. You will work closely with other Engineers in the product development teams, as well as have a close dialogue with the purchasing organisation and suppliers to secure successful product implementation. In a nutshell, it´s a role with focus on getting it right for the safety, as well as that we secure the quality level meets customers expectation. It will be highly rewarding work. And yes, it will be a lot of fun!

Product Development Platforms is a development unit within IKEA of Sweden that has the assignment to identify and develop product platforms which span across multiple range and product segments such as sofas, beds and mattresses. By doing this we both secure comfort quality and create scale advantages and lowering costs significantly that we pass on to our customer. The product platforms also contribute to a richer and smarter product offer and are also a key enabler for reaching our sustainability goals outlined in our IKEA direction. By predeveloped, ready to use modules we are providing a head start in the final Product development.
