Problem context
In the world of digitalization, data has become an increasingly important product and asset in modern companies. Although there are effective ways of handling tangible products (software and/or hardware) in place, we need to keep building knowledge and experience on how to handle data as a product. This generates several issues impacting data consumers and data quality. Put together, these issues put great limitation on the potential value that can be created by the data asset. Especially in the automotive industry where the amount of available data is rapidly increasing, it’s key to have effective ways of handling vehicle generated data.
In Volvo, we are a Vehicle Data group that work with documentation, as well as governance of usage of vehicle data. This covers a small piece of the whole “data product” lifecycle. We would like to have your support to get the picture of full vehicle data lifecycle within Volvo and bring up proposals for improvement.
