Arbetsbeskrivning
The University of Gothenburg tackles society’s challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
Welcome to the Institute of Medicine. We conduct interdisciplinary research and education that spans from molecule to society, in close collaboration with Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Chalmers University of Technology. At the Institute of Medicine, several of our teams are led by world-renowned researchers at the cutting edge of the field. For example, how the microbiota interacts with diet is studied by combining population-based studies with bioreactors and gnotobiotic mice to design intervention studies to improve metabolic health. In addition, clinical dietary intervention studies are conducted to reduce the symptom burden in patients with metabolic dysfunction, irritable bowel syndrome and other gastrointestinal diseases. At Chalmers, researchers engage in world-leading research in systems biology, bioinformatics, AI, metabolomics and food science. Clinical research is strengthened by expertise in both subjective and objective methods for measuring dietary intake, such as metabolomics and double-labeled water, as well as nutritional status and body composition. The institute promotes collaboration between independent research groups.
We are now looking for a professor of nutrition and metabolism to further strengthen our team.

Subject area
Nutrition and metabolism
Subject area description
The subject area is nutrition and metabolism. The research profile should complement and strengthen existing research through studies with a clear focus on nutrition and metabolism. For example, research investigating the interaction between nutrient intake and the microbiome, nutritional needs, the linkage between metabolism, nutrition and disease development and the underlying mechanisms in these processes. Studies may include molecular, cellular and human nutrition; tracer techniques; population studies; intervention studies and strategies to identify biomarkers to predict nutritional status and metabolic diseases.
Job assignments
Job assignments primarily include research in nutrition and metabolism. The successful candidate is expected to actively seek external funding to establish and lead a successful research group and develop collaborations nationally, internationally and within the institute.
Duties also include teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels within the medical program and other educational programs, such as the dietitian program. Supervision of undergraduate and doctoral students is also included.
This position also includes some administration related to research and teaching.
It may be possible to eventually combine this position with a position in healthcare. Clinical duties will be determined in conjunction with the hospital.
Applicants who cannot teach in Swedish are expected to be able to do so within two years of starting employment.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a medical subject or other subject that the employer finds equivalent, as well as demonstrated scientific and pedagogical skills. The ability to teach in Swedish or English is also required.
Assessment
Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.
Applicants will be evaluated primarily on the basis of scientific merit and secondarily on the basis of pedagogical merit.
When assessing scientific competence, emphasis will be placed on high-quality independent research in nutrition and metabolism with international collaborations. Applicants must show demonstrated proficiency in initiating, planning, leading and developing research, as well as the ability to obtain research grants in national or international competition. A clear progression of skill, with a focus on scientific merit from the last 10 years, will be given the greatest weight. Emphasis will be placed on publications in leading international journals, with greater weight given to the quality and impact of the publications rather than the total number. Established international networks and collaboration in national and international projects are advantageous.
When assessing pedagogical competence, emphasis will be placed on demonstrated merit in education and teaching. Documented experience in supervision at the doctoral level is also required.
Administrative and managerial experience as well as the ability to collaborate and work as a member of a team are also advantageous.
The overall assessment will evaluate expertise and potential for development, ability to carry out job assignments, to cooperate with others, and to contribute to the positive development of the institute. The overall assessment will also consider the extent to which the applicant’s research plan in nutrition and metabolism complements and strengthens existing research endeavors within the institute.
Applicants who do not have advanced education in pedagogy from the University of Gothenburg must complete this education (or validate the equivalent education received from another higher education institution) within one year of starting employment.
