At the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM) there are five scientific areas; Biology, Chemistry, Applied Physics, Materials Physics and Theory and Modeling. The department has 330 employees including 39 professors and 120 graduate students. Chemistry staff members are involved in undergraduate teaching as well as research and graduate education. The subject is taught at undergraduate level within both the Engineering and Natural Science programs. The research is mainly related to aspects of Biochemistry, Molecular Biotechnology, Organic Chemistry and cross-disciplinary fields towards physics and nanoscience.

Subject area description: The vacant Chair is part of a strong initiative in Life Sciences and their Technologies and Biomedicine implemented at Linköping University over the past five years. The Professor in Organic Chemistry is expected to make collaborations and strengthen existing strong research areas within this broad field.
The field of the Chair will be Organic Chemistry, covering research in Organic Chemistry with focus on Life Sciences and Chemical Biology.
