The Institute of neuroscience and physiology at Sahlgrenska Academy conducts extensive research and education covering a wide range of knowledge areas. The institute consists of five departments: clinical neuroscience, health and rehabilitation, pharmacology, physiology as well as psychiatry and neurochemistry. The unit of physiotherapy is a part of the department of health and rehabilitation which provides education at undergraduate-, advanced and doctoral level in the subjects of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and audiology. The unit of physiotherapy has a creative research environment with a vision to develop further, and currently has 15 registered PhD-students. With this call, we wish to further strengthen our strong scientific and pedagogical environment within the subject of physiotherapy.

Subject area description
Physiotherapy comprises the knowledge of a human being as a physical, psychological and social entity in the perspective of health based on the life situation at individual level. Central to knowledge is understanding and studies of the body, its movement, function, and interaction with others and the environment, as well as awareness of how the body, movement, habits and life pattern affect human health.
Job assignments
The holder of the position is expected to take an overall responsibility for research and education at research level in the subject of physiotherapy. The employment also involves teaching, both theoretical and clinical, and supervision of students at all levels including post graduate level. The employment involves administrative tasks and may include management assignments within the department or the institute.
The holder of the position is expected to take an active role in promoting a creative research environment for researchers and PhD-students and to advice coworkers when applying for research funding. The holder is expected to follow and pursue development within the subject physiotherapy and to develop collaboration at both national and international levels.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.
To be eligible for an appointment as professor, the applicant must possess both scientific and pedagogical skills. For this position, the applicant has to be a registered physiotherapist, with documented clinical experience as a physiotherapist.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the forms of employment for the University of Gothenburg.
When assessing the applications, equal importance will be given to scientific and pedagogic skills of importance for the subject.
When assessing scientific skills, a special emphasis will be given to the ability to lead and conduct research at high international and national levels, ability to obtain research funding in national and international competition, as well as to attract PhD-students and co-workers, and provide scientific supervision.
When assessing pedagogic skills, special emphasis will be given to pedagogical skills at undergraduate-, master- and post graduate levels within the subject field.
Good clinical expertise as a physiotherapist, ability to collaborate and interact with the surrounding society, ability to lead personnel as well as administrative ability will be taken into account.
