Professor of Informatics in the Area of Business and IT

Professor of Informatics in the Area of Business and IT

Arbetsbeskrivning

The Department of Information Technology is in an expansive phase when it comes to both education and research and is now seeking another professor of informatics.

Informatics at the University of Borås is an applied science with an overarching interest in creating knowledge about how technology, organisations, and people can be integrated into an increasingly data-intensive and technology-oriented society. The subject has a particular interest in being able to understand and explain phenomena such as design science, data-driven innovation, artefact development, and service development. Studies of design science are particularly interested in the development of methods that support the analysis and development of artefacts. Research into data-driven innovation is predominantly concerned with creating knowledge about how data can be better utilised to support data-driven innovation processes. Artefact development aims to create, for example, the creation of a European network for the development of new methods, models, and digital tools that can increase the abilities of organisations. The subject's interest in service development is largely intended to create knowledge about how modern service perspectives can be constructed in connection with the development of digital artefacts. Together, these interests form a broad definition of the informatics subject which, in addition to traditional informatics theories and perspectives, also includes relevant theories from computer science and marketing. Within the subject, there are currently two professors, one assistant professor, one visiting professor, one associate professor, three senior lecturers, and several lecturers.

Business and IT is one of six priority research areas at the University of Borås. The field is interdisciplinary and consists of several research groups that primarily include researchers with a subject-specific residency in informatics and economics. The university is working systematically to obtain rights to grant doctoral degrees in the field, which places demands on the development of the area and on the capacity to supervise doctoral students with a focus on informatics. In the field, a doctoral programme is currently offered with the support of funding from the Knowledge Foundation and in collaboration with Jönköping University and the University of Skövde.

The field covers research and practice where industry, the public sector, and academia meet to develop digital innovations in services and products. The area is particularly interested in the relationship between customers/consumers and suppliers and how rapid technological development changes and creates new relationships.

Job description
The professor, in collaboration with the other professors at the department and its leadership, will drive the development of a creative research environment; take a leading role in the further development of the research group InnovationLab; participate in the process of authoring a robust application for rights to grant doctoral degrees; seek external research funding; participate in research projects; strengthen networks with companies and professional associations; contribute to the internationalisation of the research. The professor will also supervise doctoral students and students at Master's and Bachelor's levels. In addition, the professor is expected to have a role in undergraduate educational programmes.
