Background
Extensive research is undertaken at the School of Health and Medical Sciences at Örebro University. The professor is engaged the post-graduate training in Nursing science which is a part of the graduate training in medical sciences at Örebro University.
The healthcare sciences specialisation assumes a multi-disciplinary and multi-professional approach in the study of interventions within health promotion, prevention, support, nursing care and rehabilitation. The healthcare sciences specialisation also has close links to the patient-centered care approach, where patients’ perceptions and experiences play a central role.
Duties and responsibilities
The position entails own research but the position holder will also be responsible for the further development within the field of nursing sciences. This involves leading the continued efforts in building a nationally and internationally strong nursing science research environment that will attract solid external funding. Furthermore, involvement in education at all degree levels (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral) is expected. The position holder will also contribute to identifying modes of collaboration that will stimulate research in a clinical care setting.
The administrative duties linked to the position are associated with the implementation and development of the school’s research and post-graduate training, in cooperation with the other professors at the school of Health and Medical Sciences. The position holder is also expected to play an active role in the collaboration with non-academic organisations.
Qualifications
Qualified for the appointment as professor are applicants who demonstrate research as well as educational expertise within the field.
Assessment criteria
In assessing whether an applicant is qualified for the appointment as professor, the extent to which his or her skills and expertise correspond to the qualifications requirements will be evaluated.
In the appointment process, equal attention shall be paid to the assessment of educational expertise as to the assessment of research expertise. A general assessment criterion for the appointment is the ability to work together with other people as well as such ability and suitability that are otherwise required to carry out the duties well.
Obtaining external research grants and international collaboration are both considered an additional qualification of great significance. Also, an additional qualification of particular significance is a background as a registered nurse with documented research skills within and experience from the field announced for the position.
The position holder is expected to possess administrative skills as well as a documented ability to interact effectively with the wider community. Communicate research and development initiatives, develop, lead and carry out doctoral programmes and research, as well as supervise doctoral students and staff are also included.

The tenured position is on full-time basis, and based in Örebro. The salary depends on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Positions announced at Örebro University are, where appropriate, subject to a trial period.
