The Department of Pharmacology conducts teaching and research within the field of pharmacology. At the Department there is also a unit that conducts teaching and research within the field of pharmacy and pharmacotherapy. In total, approximately 45 people are employed at the Department, divided into 8-9 research groups. Traditionally, a lot of the research evolves around neuropsychopharmacology, but also within the research areas of the peripheral nervous system, tropical diseases, mechanisms of absorption and clinical pharmacotherapeutic applications. Teaching is conducted mainly at the medical and pharmacy programs, but courses in pharmacology are also held within several other educational programs at the Sahlgrenska Academy.

Subject area description
The position is within the field of pharmacology. The position entails all areas of the subject such as general pharmacology, disease areas where drugs are used, effects of pharmacodynamics, practical and clinical pharmacology, mechanisms of action et cetera.
Job assignments
To conduct research at a high international level within the field and through the supervision of PhD students contribute to postgraduate education. The candidate is expected to attract external funding and to teach pharmacology at the bachelor, master and post graduate levels. Supervision and examination of thesis students and PhD students. Course development, course leadership and course responsibility within relevant educational programs.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Demonstrated scientific and pedagogical merits. Licensed physician.
Assessment
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Competence and experience are ranked accordingly:
First, scientific competence. When assessing scientific competence, the applicant's merits in basic pharmacology will be considered in particular (publications, external funding, assignments et cetera).
Second, pedagogical competence. In particular ability to teach and knowledge in basic pharmacology will be considered.
Third, clinical experience as a physician. Specialist competence is particularly meritorious.
Forth, administrative experience.
Fifth, experience from positions of trust or management.
Employment
The employment is a full time (100%) permanent post and located at The Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology.
First day of employment is by agreement.
