Description of the subject area: The subject of speech and language pathology is the study of human communication, language, speech, voice and swallowing functions, occurring disorders and their treatment. Speech and language pathology is an interdisciplinary field with connections to psychology, phonetics, linguistics, medicine and education. This position is focused on clinical linguistics which includes the study of language as an abstract system and phonetics that involves the study of speech sounds.

Duties: This appointment as Professor involves research, teaching, and administrative duties. It is also the responsibility of the holder of the appointment to follow development within one's own research area as well as societal development that are of relevance to the research and teaching.

The holder of the appointment as Professor shall mainly conduct research but also participate in teaching on the undergraduate, advanced and research levels at Linköping University. The pedagogic approach of the Faculty of Health Sciences stresses learner-driven education.

The focus of the position is on the interaction between linguistics and phonetics on the one hand and language and speech disorders on the other. The successful candidate is expected to conduct and lead research and should be scientifically merited in the field. We are especially interested in applicants who specialize in the description of acquired and developmental speech disorders, and the application of models of phonology to such data. In addition, an interest in clinical sociolinguistics and multilingualism would be welcome, particularly in relation to phonological models. Interest for clinical sociolinguistics and multilingualism is meritorious.

Qualifications: In order to be qualified for the appointment as Professor in research areas the applicant is required to prove both scientific and pedagogical skills.

Grounds for assessment: The extent of proficiency that is required for the appointment as Professor make up the grounds for the assessment of the applicants.

The assessment of pedagogical skills shall be given the same attention as the assessment of scientific skills.
