SIPRI is an independent international institute whose core mission is to undertake research and activities on security, conflict and peace. SIPRI’s China-Asia Security Programme is hiring a Programme Director to lead the programme.
Programme Director and Senior Researcher position
The SIPRI China and Asian Security programme provides in-depth and authoritative analyses of China’s global footprint in terms of international political economy, its role in development, peacebuilding and in the Global South and in terms of foreign, defense and strategic policy. The programme also focuses on security developments in Asia, with a special focus on the Korean Peninsula and East Asia (including the South China Sea). The programme’s focus is to analyze developments in these areas and their impact on an evolving regional architecture and global security.
The purpose of the post of Programme Director and Senior Researcher of the China and Asian Security Programme (PD/SR-CASP) is to continue developing the programme and its work, increase the scope of the programme, and ensure the existing projects are delivered upon. They should have a strong knowledge of one or more of the areas mentioned, and a profound interest in providing policy relevant analyses. They should be a team player with an interest in the more practical issues related to project and people management. All SIPRI staff are expected to have a commitment to SIPRI’s values and mission, and to contribute to the life of the institute.
Contract period
The contract period can initially last up to two years with the possibility of extension. The post is full-time. Subject to any restrictions on travel, the post requires that the candidate becomes a resident in Stockholm, Sweden, when employment starts. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
