The SWH department is a tight team where everyone is required to support and help each other when needed, with a need to be agile and flexible, altering priorities and tasks along the way.

Job description

The role as a Programme Officer - International Policy is to support the successful outcome of SIWI´s policy objectives for sustainable water governance and climate resilience within processes such as, but not limited to, UN bodies including the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), the UN Decade for Action and its Water Action Agenda, World Water Forums,, EU and Swedish government, Private Sector and other strategic partners.

Reporting responsibilities

On a daily operational basis, the employee is appointed tasks by and reports to IP Team Lead, although annual review, personal development and salary are carried out in dialogue with the Director of Swedish Water House.

General responsibilities in close cooperation with team colleagues, Team Leader and Senior Policy Managers include, but are not limited to:

- Implementation of SWH/IP's work within international processes, influence policy and decision-making through collaboration with governments, authorities, business and civil society organizations.

- Contribute to increased awareness of SIWI's positions and expertise in Water Governance, including SIWI's key issues for water, climate, biodiversity, human rights, gender equality, diversity, Agenda 2030, and the global goals to relevant actors as specified in SIWI 2023 Positioning Paper.

- Increase awareness, knowledge and participation in activities convened and facilitated by SWH/International Policy, including World Water Week High Level Panels.

- Coordination and implementation of activities and events at international, EU and national levels (such as, meetings, conferences, side events, seminars, webinars, round- tables and workshops).

- Develop and provide policy briefs and/or other relevant documents to, or in collaboration with, other SIWI departments, such as Communications, Water Cooperation and Diplomacy, African Regional Center and Wa Sanitation & Hygiene (WaSH) Work across departments to review and formulate positions and contributions to international processes.

- Nurture and develop trustful relationships with various partners and stakeholders in relevant sectors.

Tasks and activities include, but are not limited to the following:

- Note-taking, generating reports, and required documentation.

- Conceptualization, planning, execution, financial tracking, monitoring, and reporting on activities, projects, events, and agreements.

- Partnership outreach, support and development, and identification of possible funding streams

- Contribute to dialogues with relevant stakeholders in national, European, and international policy processes.

- Collaborate on and contribute to Communications products.

- Conduct analyses, assist and support advisor, manager and director at Swedish Water House as needed.

- Handle travel coordination and administration, including coordination of IP team travel reports (BTO) reports.

- The role does not include full budget responsibility but requires an ability and interest in the financial side of the project work such as keeping up with the budget, planning, organizing, implementing, and helping out with finance updates etc.

Qualifications

- The applicant should demonstrate strong organizational skills to independently lead and structure activities and projects, with limited guidance.

- Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills are desired, with a capacity to engage in multiple activities/projects/tasks in parallel.

- Practice in developing and delivering presentations, documentation, reports, and summaries

- Basic skills in event design, moderation and facilitation a plus.

- Fluent English. Additional language skills are a plus.

Competence

Education

Minimum requirement of a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (e.g. international relations, policy, economics, human rights, natural- or social science).

Previous experience

- Professional experience from international and/or EU organizations is welcomed,
