We are recruiting a Programme Officer to support the Foundation’s programmatic activities. Help us advance dialogue and policy for sustainable development and peace in Dag Hammarskjöld’s memory.
Description
The vision of the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation is a peaceful, just and inclusive world where the fundamental values of the UN are universally applied. Its employees should share its vision and ideals and understand what it means to work in and represent Hammarskjöld’s legacy in an international context. Its working language is English.
The Foundation’s core programmatic activities address four interrelated and mutually reinforcing thematic areas, global governance, peacebuilding and sustaining peace, human rights, and climate change, and three strategic priorities, leadership, resources, and inclusivity. Programmatic work is organized within five projects, each with its own project team.
The project contributes to strengthen the UN leadership systems and practices, in and across the UN Secretariat as well as agencies fund and programmes and to reinforce the relevance of the International Civil service. This projects’ activities include convening and facilitating seminars, workshops and policy dialogues, conducting consultations and analysis, supporting the delivery of trainings, and generating publications. The Programme officer is expected to contribute to the activities in this project, and to support other project teams, as needed.
Responsibilities and tasks
Support the planning, implementation and follow-up of formal and informal events.
Contribute to producing and editing written materials related to the assigned activities.
Follow current events and policy developments on issues and themes related to the assigned activities.
Engage with external contributors to the Foundation’s events and publications and support the coordination of their inputs.
Participate actively in internal processes, including meetings and retreats, trainings, learning events, team building, work planning, and monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
Perform additional tasks in as requested by the Project Lead and/or Programme Directors.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. international relations, political science, global studies).
Minimum of four years relevant professional experience.
Knowledge of UN reform particular management reform, UN leadership initiatives and UN human resource policies is a merit.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Other language skills are appreciated, but not required.
The ability to take initiative.
Self-awareness, flexibility, creativity, and the ability to work effectively in teams.
Respect for diversity and appreciation of the social and political nuances of work engaging international civil servants and diplomats.
Willingness and ability to participate in limited international travel, when it becomes possible and safe to do so, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Reporting and Collaboration
The Programme Officer will report to a Programme Director.
Day-to-day tasks will be assigned and monitored by the relevant Project Lead.
The Programme Officer will work closely with other internal stakeholders, namely members of the communications and administrative staff, and external stakeholders, including partners and consultants.
Terms of employment
The Programme Officer role will be primarily based at the Foundation’s office in Uppsala, Sweden. The Foundation also has a presence in Stockholm, which may be used as agreed with the relevant Programme Director.
The Foundation follows the Swedish Public Health Agency’s guidelines for minimising the risk of COVID-19 transmission, which includes the possibility to work from home.
Due to the Foundation’s standard employment modalities, the selected candidate will be offered a two-year contract with a six-month probationary period. Upon completion of the two-year contract, a tenured position may be offered.
The salary will be determined based on the individual’s experience and qualifications.
