Project assisstent in environmental assessment of nanomaterials

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the division and the research
The Division of Environmental Systems Analysis conducts research to assess environmental impacts of technological change and to explore ways to transform technical systems to better meet environmental and resource constraints. Our research requires cross- and transdisciplinary efforts combining environmental assessment, such as life cycle assessment, with approaches from social science, such as innovation system and transition studies. Stakeholders are often engaged in our research. The division has around 35 staff members, faculty and PhD students with diverse expertise, including engineers, natural and social scientists. We also offer courses in areas related to our research.

This position is part of a larger consortium of researchers called the Mistra Environmental Nanoafety programme, led by Lund University. Researchers from natural science, social science and engineering have joined forces in order to discover how safe nanomaterials can be achieved. Chalmers participates in several work packages, including WP4 about proactive environmental risk assessment, regulation and responsible innovation. In particular, there is a focus on including so-called coronas in environmental risk assessment and regulation, which are layers of biomolecules that may alter the environmental fate and toxicological effects of nanomaterials.

Job description
As a project assistant, you will be researching specific tasks within the Mistra Environmental Nanosafety programme, specifically within WP4 about proactive risk assessment, regulation and responsible innovation. The tasks will mainly be related to proactive environmental risk assessment of nanomaterials. Results from the research will be communicated in written and oral form, mainly in English. In addition, there will be some teaching obligations in selected courses.

Qualifications
You have a Master of Science in Industrial Ecology or similar and are good at communicating in English, both in writing and orally. You are self-propelled and flexible, with a high problem-solving and analytical ability. It is a merit to have taken courses in environmental risk assessment or similar. The same applies if you are familiar with other environmental assessment methods. Knowledge about chemistry, chemical engineering and nanomaterials, as well as experience from previous work in academic environments, for example as a research project assistant are also meriting. Other merits are experience from teaching activities and being able to communicate in Swedish, both written and oral.

Contract terms
Temporary employment for one year.
