Placement city
Kalmar
Terms of Employment
The employment is 100% and lasts 4 months. Access as soon as possible.
Project description
There have been large amounts of microplastics (MPs) entering aquatic environments through treated and untreated stormwater. Strategies for effectively removing MPs from stormwater, therefore, is a topic that is gaining more and more attention. Our project aims to evaluate one possible solution to remove, and therefore diminish the quantity of MPs discharged into aquatic environments via stormwater. More specifically, we will conduct a series of tests to check the efficiency of a technique involving particle separation from water by generating multiple vortices. We will also separate MPs from sediments and water and sort them according to existing techniques. This technology has been successfully used to separate biological microscopic components in body liquids.

A person fulfils the general entry requirements if she/he has:
• Undergraduate studies in a related field: environmental science, geology, biology or engineering.
• Experience in fieldwork and laboratory practices.
• Documented experience on microplastic classification and separation in environmental samples.
Other assessment grounds
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Knowledge in Swedish language (beginner level) will be an advantage.
