Project assistant in life cycle assessment

Project assistant in life cycle assessment

Arbetsbeskrivning

Information about the division and the project
The Division of Environmental Systems Analysis conducts research to assess environmental impacts of technological change and to explore ways to transform technical systems to better meet environmental and resource constraints. Our research requires cross- and transdisciplinary efforts combining environmental assessment, such as life cycle assessment, with approaches from social science, such as innovation system and transition studies. Stakeholders are often engaged in our research. The division has around 35 staff members, faculty and PhD students with diverse expertise, including engineers, natural and social scientists. We also offer courses in areas related to our research.

This position is part of a larger consortium of researchers called the Mistra Environmental Nanosafety programme, led by Lund University. For more information, see here. Researchers from natural science, social science and engineering have joined forces in order to discover how safe nanomaterials can be achieved. Chalmers participates in several work packages, including WP4 about proactive environmental risk assessment, regulation and responsible innovation.

Job description
As a project assistant, you will be researching specific tasks within the Mistra Environmental Nanosafety programme, specifically within WP4 about proactive risk assessment, regulation and responsible innovation. The tasks will mainly be related to prospective life cycle assessment (LCA) of nanomaterials. Prospective LCA is a future-orientet type of LCA, tailored towards assessing emerging technologies, such as nanomaterials. A specific type of nanomaterials to be investigated is so-called MXenes. You will communicate the results from the research in written and oral form, mainly in English. In addition, there will be some teaching obligations in selected courses.

Contract terms
Temporary employment until 2023-03-31 with possible extension until 2023-08-31.

Qualifications
You have a Master of Science in Industrial Ecology or similar, and are good at communicating in English, both in writing and orally. You are self-propelled and flexible, with a high problem-solving and analytical ability.

It is meritorious if you have taken courses in life cycle assessment or similar and if you are familiar with other environmental assessment methods. Knowledge about nanomaterials, as well as experience from previous work in academic environments, for example as a research project assessment, are also seen as meritorious, as well as experience from teaching activities. Lastly, being able to communicate in Swedish, both written and oral, is also a merit.
