The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as disease ecology.
Subject area for the position: Microbiology with specialization in omics analyses.
Employment and scope: Temporary employment for five months, full time.
Starting date: According to agreement.
Location until further notice: Kalmar.
Job description:
The work will involve general duties to help keep the laboratory functioning efficiently as well activities related to the microbiology of the deep biosphere. Specifically, it will include field work for sampling, nucleic acid extractions followed by PCR amplifications of samples, chemical analyses, and microbial culturing.
Qualifications:
Requirements: A minimum of an undergraduate degree in biology including microbiology training. In addition, the candidate needs to be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.
Merits: Experience working in a microbiology laboratory and relevant aseptic techniques plus DNA extraction and PCR amplification with extra merit of these techniques have been carried out on difficult to handle/low biomass samples. In addition, experience of fieldwork along with holding a driving license would put the candidate at an advantage.
