The Faculty of Medicine is one of five faculties of Umeå University.The faculty is an organization for education and research groups in the fields of medicine, odontology and health care.It comprises 13 departments, 2 research centers and 12 academic programmes.Within the faculty there are about 3 000 undergraduate and 500 graduate students.About 1 000 people are employed here, among them about 500 teachers/researchers.Project assistant position, 80% (Projektassistent) at the Department of Clinical Immunology, Institution of Clinical Microbiology for pathologist with specialization in immunoelectron microscopy.The Institution of Clinical Microbiology at the Medical Faculty of Umeå University comprise of 6 departments - Bacteriology, Biomedical Laboratory Science, Clinical Immunology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Virology.The institution has approximately 90 employees and pursues basic experimental and clinical research in biomedicine conducted by independent research groups in an atmosphere of good collaboration and sharing of facilities and equipment.The position is time limited and expires 2008-12-31 (extension possible).Work description The work is within the field of immunology of human reproduction with characterization of receptors and ligands in subpopulations of human decidual lymphocytes and placental cells, and their organelles.The work includes 1) specimen treatment and preparation, 2) various staining techniques for immunoelectron microscopy (IEM) such as immunogold, immunoperoxidase and negative contrast, and be able to modify and develop new methods that will suit the project, 3) independent analysis of histopathological and IEM samples, 4) photo documentation.Qualifications: - Academic PhD degree in medical and biological sciences - Medical doctor with specialization in pathology and electron microscopy with solid and documented experience relevant to the project - Skills in adjacent techniques like immunohistochemistry and histopathological tissue analysis and diagnosis, tissue- and cell cultures and isolation and characterization of cell organelles Additional knowledge and skills in Immunology of Reproduction and general Immunology, good experience of minor service of the electron microscope and adjacent equipment and experience of supervising and training of students in electron microscopy techniques are highly appreciated.Applications will be discarded or, if the applicant so wishes, returned two years after the position has been filled.The application should include a CV, publication list and contact information of academic references.Relevant publications can be included.Your complete application, marked with ref.
