The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering, and zoonotic ecology.
Placement city: Kalmar
Terms of Employment: The employment is 100% and lasts about 9 months. Starting date as soon as the post can be filled.
Project description:
The work will involve general duties to help keep the laboratory functioning efficiently as well activities related to the microbiology of the deep biosphere. Specifically, it will include field work for sampling, nucleic acid extractions followed by PCR amplifications of samples, chemical analyses, and microbial culturing.
Entry requirements:
A minimum of an undergraduate degree in biology including microbiology training. In addition, the candidate needs to be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written English.
Other assesment grounds: Experience working in a microbiology laboratory and relevant aseptic techniques plus DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and gel electrophoresis with extra merit of these techniques have been carried out on difficult to handle/low biomass samples. In addition, experience of fieldwork would put the candidate at an advantage. It will also be a merit if the candidate holds a driving license.
