Arbetsbeskrivning
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is seeking a Project Coordinator to manage the operations of a project that aims to focus international attention on practical steps to address the negative impact of today’s environmental crises so as to improve tomorrow’s prospects for peace and security.
The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) is one of the world’s foremost peace research institutions and has done much in recent years to bring the linkage between climate change and insecurity to a higher place on the agendas of policy, of practice in international development, and of research. The year 2022 marks the 50thanniversary of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, the first major inter-government conference on the environment. Connected to this anniversary and to developments in both the global climate and the global security equation, SIPRI is planning a major international report, provisionally entitled Environment of Peace 2022 (EP 2022).
The primary responsibility of the Project Coordinator is to support all aspects of the delivery of research in the project.
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for:
• Ensuring, under supervision by the Project Leader, that decisions of the international panel are followed up and implemented;
• Administering the EP 2022 Project, including monitoring the finances in cooperation with SIPRI’s Grant Manager and the Project Leader, and drafting contracts;
• Ensuring reporting to donors is on time and meets requirements;
• Ensuring the appropriate arrangements are made for all activities – meetings, field trips and others – in the implementation of the EP 2022 project;
• Planning, organising and delivering public events, in cooperation with SIPRI’s outreach team, during the preparation of the EP 2022 report and the outreach phase after its publication.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have as a minimum the following experience:
• A university degree or degrees, in administration or disciplines/topics relevant to the EP 2022 project, such as international relations, environmental governance, peace, risk management, security;
• 1-2 years of professional experience in administration and event assistance;
• Demonstrated ability of effective project assistance skills and coordination; experience in event booking logistics and/or in providing administrative support to large, high-level conferences;
• Familiarity with handling finance systems would be desirable;
• Preferably experience in supporting research teams;
• Ability to work and deliver high quality work within small teams under high pressure.
Contract period
Starting as soon as possible. The appointment will be a 2-year contract with possibility of extension. The post is full-time. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
The position of Project Coordinator is based in Stockholm and, as with all research posts at SIPRI, requires willingness and availability to travel for the purposes of, inter alia, field research, fund-raising and presenting and disseminating research findings. This requirement must, of course, be balanced by the need to be present in the institute and taking part in activities there, as well as by the larger need for work-life balance.
How to apply
Candidates should submit a resume/CV and a one-page cover letter in English.
Please observe that you apply via our electronic application system. Please access the form via the "apply" button at the very end of this page.
The initial closing date for applications is 18 March 2020.
