POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Position: Project manager / Geneticist (in the area of beef international genetic evaluations).Location: Interbull Centre, Dept.of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden.Uppsala is situated only 30 minutes north of Arlanda international airport and 45 minutes north of Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.It is one of the major university cities in Sweden and offers an attractive mix of history, culture, modern hi-tech industry and a Nordic nature.Background: Interbull, a permanent sub-committee of the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR), is a professional organisation offering international genetic evaluations and other services to its members in more than 30 countries worldwide.Interbull plans are realised at its operational unit, the Interbull Centre, based under contract at the Dept.of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU).The Interbull Centre is presently conducting, on its own or in collaboration with its international partners, international genetic evaluations for production, conformation, udder health, longevity, and calving traits s in dairy cattle.International genetic evaluations for female fertility are under way.Due to expanded activities at the Interbull Centre further staff is required. Description: The holder of the position will actively participate in the design and technical development of beef international genetic evaluations.This activity is subcontracted by ICAR to the Interbull Centre in collaboration with INRA in France, and is funded by several ICAR/INTERBULL member organisations.The primary responsibility of the holder will be to participate in research and development activities in collaboration with the partners of the project, and to maintain communication systems and feedback channels.Qualification: Postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in animal breeding and genetics, or a closely related field.Prerequisites include experience from relevant research and/or service development functions, and strong analytical and computing skills.A background in genetic evaluations and / or beef cattle genetics is desirable.The working language at the Interbull Centre is English, and comprehensive abilities in English are therefore a requirement.Documented communication skills and project management experience will be distinct advantages.Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.Appointment: 3 years (evaluation after 6 months).The holder will be an employee at the SLU.Starting time: Negotiable, but preferably not later than January 1st, 2007.Application: The application should be labelled with ref.nr 2240/06.
