The Protection Systems Group is responsible for the delivery of facility-wide machine protection (MP) and personnel safety systems (PSS). These systems are critical for the successful and safe operation of the facility and are highly integrated into the design of the whole facility. As such, the work of the group involves plenty of interaction with stakeholders throughout the whole project, both in Lund and internationally.
Responsibilities
• Integration of the different personnel safety systems (PSS) into the ESS accelerator, target station, neutron instruments.
• Development, verification and documentation of interfaces between personnel safety systems and equipment in the accelerator, target station and neutron
instruments. Ensure compliance with the associated safety integrity levels and reaction times.
• Actively collect, evaluate and optimize requirements from the different stakeholders necessary to design personnel safety systems.
• Perform engineering design and related duties. Ensure that designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and procedures and that designs are in line with ESS
availability goals.
• Actively assist during the installation and the different tests of personnel safety systems (factory acceptance test, site acceptance test, site integration and final integration tests).
Required qualifications
• University degree in a relevant field, such as automation, computer science, information technology, or electrical engineering
• Experience from working with complex control systems in an international, multicultural environment.
• Hands-on experience from designing, integrating, analyzing, and/or optimizing the performance of critical systems
• Experience in the field of developing and evaluating dependable architectures and designs for critical and complex systems.
• Experience with technology evaluation. Ability to provide new and innovative
technological solutions for complex problems.
• Experience with requirements solicitation and verification.
• Ability to teach, mentor, communicate to the point and defend technical concepts and solutions.
• Excellent oral and written English skills.
Optional qualifications
• Experience from working with the International Functional Safety Standard IEC 61511
• Experience from cross-functional roles
• Understanding of the operation of particle accelerators, targets, or neutron sources.
• Experience from using collaborative tools such as Jira
• Knowledge of additional European languages.
