Psychometrician to Alva Labs
Ever applied for a job that suited you perfectly, but didn’t even get a call-back for a first interview? Yeah, it has happened to most of us. But sadly, it often happens for the wrong reasons. For instance, you have a 60% less chance to get a callback if you have an Arabic-sounding name. If it was for a leadership role, you are less likely to get it if you are a woman, or if you are short (yes, you read that correctly, short!).
But it doesn’t have to be like this. There are alternatives to hire based on the stuff that really matters, based on who the person behind the CV is. Alva is one of those alternatives. We are now looking for a Psychometrician that can help us drive growth, and help our customers to start implementing the future of hiring! 🚀
The company
If one should summarize what we as a company are doing, it could be something like this:
Alva Labs is a Stockholm-based SaaS company that offers a solution to help global companies grow their team in a scientific way. Combining state-of-the-art psychometrics, data science, and an obsession with candidate experience, we provide the ultimate tool for data-driven talent acquisition. Alva also serves candidates by allowing them to discover what job opportunities are the best matches, given each candidate’s unique background, personality and ability. In fancy words: Alva is becoming a SaaS-enabled talent marketplace, matching companies and candidates.
We have been growing 2-3x yearly and are now focusing on international expansion and making the next big product bet that will revolutionize how the world views talent.
The role
Our psychometric test tools are truly the core of Alva’s offering. Test development at Alva is built on top of strong scientific findings in the area of personnel assessment and selection. We use Python and SQL (BigQuery) to manipulate, analyze and visualize data.
As we grow, we need to scale up our testing capabilities. This includes developing new items for our adaptive tests, supporting test-taking in new languages, analyzing our growing database of test results, and continuously validating and calibrating our scales.
In addition to test development, you will support colleagues at Alva, customers and clients with your technical expertise in statistics, research methods, and organizational psychology.
The main areas of responsibility will include:
- Being part of building the core of our product to help our companies make better hiring decisions.
- Test development - from item development to deployment and monitoring test performance.
- Conduct validity and reliability studies using internal data, data collection tools, or in collaboration with our customers.
- Sharing insights from research to inform product development and business decisions.
- Technical documentation and support for colleagues and clients.
- Running translation projects for the personality test.
- Leading test certification processes.
- Exploring and prototyping new assessments to extend Alva’s offering.
You
To be a fit for this role, you have studied organizational psychology or a closely related field. You have worked with psychological or educational measurements and are familiar with the process of developing questionnaires, surveys and tests. Ideally, you have conducted scientific research, either in an academic setting or in industry, and enjoy all the steps of the process - study design, data collection, analysis and reporting results. You use scientific programming to produce plots and statistics, and appreciate the value of reproducible workflows.
Other things that make you a qualified candidate:
- Education in organizational psychology, psychometrics, educational testing or a closely related field is required.
- Experience in survey design and/or test development.
- Strong learner - expect a steep learning curve and a continuous need to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the fields of psychometrics, organizational psychology, and personnel selection.
- Reliable - complete what you take on with high standards for quality.
- Self-motivated - able to work independently.
- Language- The working language at Alva is English. Swedish is not a requirement for this position.
Bonus requirements:
- Knowledge in modern test theory (Item Response Theory) and Bayesian statistics is meriting.
- Skill in reproducible statistical analysis using Python, R or Julia is meriting.
