Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
You want an exciting career that contributes to positive change. So, what’s your next move?
Imagine being part of the most exciting industry on the planet. Our future is all about tech – electrified and eventually self-driving cars, totally connected to people’s everyday lives. Tech that will shift how our society functions. But how do we introduce this future in a way that’s safe and sustainable? These are some of the questions we’re solving here at Volvo Cars.
We’ve set our targets big. Being all electric by 2030 and climate neutral by 2040 are just two. We’re also bringing software development in-house and moving car sales online.
This fast transformation isn’t for everyone. But if you’re excited by the technological and sustainability challenges facing the auto industry and society at large, then you’re a great fit.
Join us and watch your ideas shape the future of mobility.
Public Relations Strategist – this is what you’ll do
We are looking for a Public Relations Strategist with an eye for identifying and developing impactful news-based stories and creating multi-channel strategies to see them through to execution. Our Public Relations Strategists work within the Central PR team, communicating to external stakeholders and focusing on media. For us, a Public Relations Strategist is someone who proactively stays on top of what is happening in the business to be able to react quickly to potential risks and find stories that build the corporate reputation. In order to achieve this, you will maintain and expand Volvo Cars’ network and work with the drafting of corporate communication strategies and messages.
In Volvo Cars’ Central PR Team, the pace is high and as part of our press office, we are in daily contact with media around the world as well as in our markets and regions. At the same time, we together line out and execute on long-term PR strategies. You will therefore need to both work efficiently and independently, but also as an integrated member of the PR team. A big focus is on international business, tech and consumer media and the building of relationships with key journalists globally. The Public Relations Strategist reports to the Global PR Team Lead.
As a Strategist, you will have to be ready to act as a company spokesperson for corporate issues and oversee the drafting of communication strategies and messages. You will develop media Q&As and statements as well as assess and support interview requests and speaking opportunities with executives. You will have close contact with our regions and markets, which you will support with corporate media questions. You also monitor relevant media outlets for communication opportunities and newsjacking, and develop proactive stories for media that support Volvo Cars’ brand and strategy.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within media relations and PR will be needed in this role and you have a very good understanding of working methods for journalists. You understand the complex interplay between business and policy, and you know one or two things about financials as well as the tech industry.
Experience in a Communications department as a spokesperson or PR manager is valuable, as well as experience in a company with a global presence.
You have a good ability to build networks with internal and external stakeholders and you are a good communicator both orally and in writing. You are very familiar with the English language, but you don’t have to be a native speaker as we have specific writers who produce press releases, media backgrounders and other written media assets.
Location
This position is based at Volvo Cars’ international HQ in Gothenburg or at our Tech Hub in Stockholm, Sweden.
