Arbetsbeskrivning
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
What’s in it for you?
People who make a difference are the driving force that has built one of the most recognisable brands in the world. We are now looking for a change maker who thinks about communication opportunities in exciting and different ways – creative and critical thinkers who want to change the world with us at Volvo Cars.
What you will do
We are looking for a Public Relations Strategistwith a background in journalism. The focus for the position is on effectively communicating corporate messages.
We are looking for a person with an eye for identifying and developing impactful news-based stories and creating multi-channel strategies to see them through to execution. Our Public Relations Strategists work within the Central PR team, communicating to external stakeholders and focusing on media. For us, a Public Relations Strategist is someone who proactively stays on top of what is happening in the business to be able to react quickly to potential risks and find stories that build the corporate reputation. In order to achieve this, you will maintain and expand Volvo Cars’ network and work with the drafting of corporate communication strategies and messages.
In Volvo Cars’ Central PR Team, the pace is high, and we are in daily contact with media around the world as well as in our markets and regions. You will therefore need to work efficiently and independently. A big focus is on international business media and the building of relationships with key journalists globally. The Public Relations Strategist reports to the Head of Central PR.
As a Strategist, you will act as a company spokesperson for corporate issues and oversee the drafting of corporate communication strategies and messages. You will develop media Q&As and statements as well as assessing and supporting interview requests and speaking opportunities with executives. You will have close contact with our regions and markets, which you will support with corporate media questions. You also monitor relevant media outlets for communication opportunities and needs.
Qualifications
Since the focus for the position is on communicating corporate messages, a couple of years of background in business journalism – preferably from international news media – will be needed in this role. We would like to see that you have experience of interviewing CEOs or other high-profile executives, and you know one or two things about financials. You understand the complex interplay between business and policy, and you have a general understanding of working methods for journalists. You have a good ability to build networks with internal and external stakeholders, and it is beneficial if you already have a good network of international – and potentially Swedish – business journalists.
Furthermore, experience in a Communications department as a spokesperson or PR manager would be valuable but is not a must.
You are a good communicator both orally and in writing. You are very familiar with the English language, but you don’t have to be a native speaker as we have specific writers who produce press releases, media backgrounders and other written media assets.
This position is based at Volvo Cars’ international HQ in Gothenburg, Sweden.
