Description of Position:
International School of Karlskrona (formerly Karlskrona Internationella Grundskola) is an IB Candidate school located in Karlskrona, Sweden. The school caters to international families and offers both the PYP (Primary Years Program) and MYP (Middle Years Program) as well as Fritids (after and before school care). The language of instruction is English and all classes, except Swedish, are taught in English. We pride ourselves to have a diverse set of students and teachers. Academic Year 2022-2023 will be our fourth year of operation. Classes are steadily growing.
Due to increased enrollment, we are now seeking professional and passionate teachers who wish to be key components of the continued development and growth. The successful candidate(s) must have a desire to work within an IB environment and have a thorough understanding of inquiry-based pedagogy and how to teach for conceptual understanding. Experience in inclusion and differentiated instruction in a multi-cultural setting is desirable. Collaboration is key in our environment, thus, the ideal candidate must want and like to work in a team.
We are looking for a licensed educator to be the head teacher in a PYP (Primary Years Program) homeroom. In this role, you will be responsible for providing high quality, transdisciplinary education, teaching mainly Unit of Inquiry, Language, and Maths. You will also ensure a learning environment in which the students learn to take control of their learning.
Additional duties include:
Weekly collaborative meetings
Creating/Utilizing varied forms of formative and summative assessments to inform teaching and learningpractices
Develop and maintain a positive learning environment
Ensure the learning environment (consisting of space, time, materials, and people) is planned, organized, and effectively managed to develop appropriate and positive behavior patterns
A commitment to empower each learner to fulfil his or her maximum potential by developing skills, understandings, and academic abilities
Being professional in your conduct towards students, colleagues, parents and other stakeholders
A commitment to instill a love for learning in each learner
A commitment to professional development and school development
Teaches with a trans- or interdisciplinary approach, authentically connecting teaching and learning engagements across subject disciplines and to “real life”
Demonstrates a constructivist approach to pedagogy, including inquiry-based teaching and learning as well as teaching for conceptual understanding
Participates in mandatory IB training
The desired candidate is/has:
IB PYP or MYP experience is ideal however, a desire to work in an IB environment is a must
Must have a teaching degree and/or teaching license
Open-minded and pro-active team-player embracing change and development in a new and growing IB school
Internationally-minded lifelong learner
Excellent and fluent, verbal and written, English communication skills
Embraces the idea of including the whole school community consisting of parents, students and all staff to ensure a holistic educational experience
A desire to develop global citizenship in all learners
A desire to develop agentic students able to drive their own, purposeful, learning which leads to Action
In the interest of visa processing time, either is an EU citizen or already fulfills legal requirements to work and live in Sweden (native Swede or non-native with a current work permit)
Role-models all IB, Learner Profile traits, such as being Caring, Open-minded, Inquirer, Reflective, Principled, a Communicator, and more.
