Quality Control Shift Lead
The Quality Control team at Northvolt Labs, Västerås (Sweden) is looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and hardworking Quality Control Shift Lead with chemical/materials background to join their team. You will be responsible to ensure that daily laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process and finished products by your shift is completed and reported on-time as required by production. As QC shift lead you will provide directions to QC technicians on shift tasks when required and be responsible for a smooth daily shift handover. In addition to your shift lead responsibilities, you will also be involved in carrying out various chemical analyses, controls and tests of battery materials yourself. You will be trained to independently analyse and report the properties of battery materials run analyses using advanced analytical instruments in the QC laboratory, learn about the manufacturing process of battery materials and gain knowledge and experience as well as be involved in the method development and validation of QC analyses and troubleshooting/maintenance of advance instruments. We believe you have studied chemistry or any other related science degree including laboratory work experience, are interested in a hands-on career in an analytical laboratory and have experience leading and being responsible for a team. You will report to the QC area manager.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for the smooth operation of the shifts activities/personnel tasks according to the daily shift plan.
Work closely with technicians to ensure the team has everything they need to perform the daily tasks according to the work instructions and the work plan.
Be the first point of contact for the team, help identify problems, with test material, analysis methods, and instrumentation
Follow and utilize principles of 5S, lean & six sigma to suggest and implement continuous improvement projects for the shift and the lab, whether this is related to health & safety, waste handling, data reporting or standard working procedures
Communicate and collaborate with the production teams regarding samples/results deliveries, flagging any issues and delays to the QC area manager
Understand and execute quality control analyses for material, incoming parts, product intermediates and finalized products.
Organize test results in the expected template and/or LIMS system, review test results/control run, flag and inform of any non-conformities in the results to the area manager and maintain control charts.
Participate in root cause investigations and the development of corrective actions.
Report instrument troubleshooting/problems to area manager/specialist and track the suggested actions.
Act as liaison between shift members and the QC area manager.
Understand the fundamentals of method development and validation and participate in the execution side.
Write work instructions, risk assessments, standard operating procedures and daily shift performance reports.
Ensure lab rules and safety measures are followed at all times with zero tolerance for deviation.
Skills & Requirements
Qualifications/education/experience
BSc or MSc degree in science/engineering field, preferably in chemistry or materials engineering.
+3 years laboratory experience.
Ability to work shifts.
Previous work experience in quality control, quality assurance or an analytical laboratory is a plus.
Previous experience in leading/being responsible for a team is a plus.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
Hands-on experience in some of the following analytical instruments: ICP, BET, SEM, XRD, PSD, Karl Fischer and acid-base titrations, battery testing.
Specific knowledge of quality management systems, e.g. ISO 9001, IATF16949, TQM is a plus.
Familiar with Lean, Six Sigma and 5S concepts, as well as SPC, FMEA, Quality troubleshooting tools and problem-solving methodology is a plus.
Curious, technically educated and preferably with a strong business background.
