Quality Engineers – NOVO Energy, Gothenburg
We are building a state-of-the-art Gigafactory that will be one of the largest battery cell production facilities in Europe. With construction started, we’re now looking to build a team of highly skilled Quality Engineers who will play a key role throughout the entire project lifecycle from inception through to production.
Our mission
Volvo Cars is one of the most well-known and respected car brands in the world. Northvolt is a leading supplier of sustainable, high-quality battery cells and systems, dedicated to delivering the world’s greenest lithium-ion battery. Together, we have formed a joint venture, NOVO Energy, to power the next generation of pure electric Volvo and Polestar cars.
What you will do
Reporting to the Senior Director – Quality, this role will see you flex your skills across two distinct phases of NOVO Energy’s growth - the Project phase when we’re building and equipping the Gigafactory, and the Production phase when we’ll be making sustainable EV batteries in a hi-tech production environment.
Project phase:
Initially you will be part of the NOVO Engineering project team responsible for setting up the quality control labs and equipment in the plant. During this phase you will also represent Quality in the Process Engineering teams, developing the FMEA’s, the quality control plans etc. In this phase we are also preparing the implementation of the Quality Management system. You will collaborate with a broad range of cross-functional teams from process engineers, construction to R&D and play an integral role in establishing and integrating the Quality teams future needs and operating environment.
Production Phase:
Once the Gigafactory is built, and production is up and running you’ll be responsible for ensuring quality of our products coming out of the production lines, and you will support Production, on shopfloor, through problem solving and improvement projects. You will also be in charge of implementing the quality standards, procedures, and quality management principles throughout the organization.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
-
Manage the quality control methods and equipment in the plant, from specification to end of Life.
-
Support the process teams in Quality Assurance; actively participating in developing the Process Maps and the FMEA's, as well as performing the SAT and FAT related activities.
-
Manage the Quality Control plans for each process operation, from 1st draft version to running production.
-
Lead the execution of the Quality Control plan during pre-production and deliver required input to customer projects, e.g., APQP and PPAP documentation.
-
Manage Non-conformities throughout the production process.
-
Solve problems. Lead trouble shooting and root cause analysis activities in relation to deviations and quality issues, e.g., 8D and non-conformity investigations.
-
Develop, implement, and audit standard procedures and instructions. Provide training to team members as well as managers.
Your background and skills:
-
University degree in engineering and working experience within quality in a relevant production environment (battery, pharma, automotive, food etc.).
-
Deep knowledge, from experience, in problem solving, statistical process control, quality control and quality monitoring, quality tools & methods, quality management systems and standards (ISO9001 and IATF16949) as well as continuous improvement and lean manufacturing.
-
Project management skills and a successful track record of leading quality improvement/six sigma projects in manufacturing and/or with suppliers.
-
Ability and urge to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional, multi-cultural team environment.

What’s in it for you
Over the course of this multi-year project, you will play a core role in building a Quality controls function from scratch under the guidance of experienced leaders. In this position, you will also gain a deep understanding of cutting-edge battery cell manufacturing, a skill-set in high demand in an industry with immense growth ahead. To top it off, we’re gathering expertise from all over the world, and you’ll be part of an international and motivated team that have fun together while inventing for the future.
