Radio Frequency / Electronics Technician

Arbetsbeskrivning

The European Spallation Source is hiring motivated and inspiring people from across the globe to design, construct and operate the world’s most powerful neutron source. We seek ambitious, talented people in a range of fields who are excited about playing a part in the future of science in Europe. ESS is a partnership of 13 European countries and occupies a truly impressive campus based in the beautiful, cosmopolitan university city of Lund, Sweden – just 10 minutes from Malmö and 30 minutes from Copenhagen.

We are now looking to appoint a Radio Frequency Technician or an Electronics Technician. This is a mission critical role that exists within the Radio Frequency Group. The RF Group is part of the Accelerator division at ESS, with responsibility for defining, designing, installing, commissioning and maintaining the RF systems and amplifiers required for the accelerator and test stands.

We are looking for a technician to assist with installation and testing of the ESS Radio Frequency systems, sub-systems and test stands. You will be working closely with, and assisting other members, of the RF group as well as having your own short and longer term responsibilities. We envisage that your role will later evolve into operation, equipment optimisation, and preventative maintenance. While much of the work is of an electronics and RF nature, we're looking for a real "all-rounder" - someone who is willing and has an aptitude to learn new skills to take on a variety of tasks.

About the role:
As the successful candidate and future RF/Electronics technician you will:

• Assist with electrical and mechanical installation of the RF systems including rack mounted components, cabling and assembly.
• Produce and maintain electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Work with RF, electronics and mechanical activities within your competence.
• Carry out testing of components on delivery, following installation and when in operation.
• Conduct system testing and fault finding.
• Perform soldering, crimping and light machining to fabricate and repair electronic circuits sub-assemblies and systems.
• Assist with the repair of components.
• Supervise contractors and suppliers as required.

About you:
As a positive and proactive person, you are someone who demonstrates a willingness to learn and get involved. Ideally, you are someone that can also bring:

• General mechanical, electrical, wiring and installation knowledge.
• Training and experience in electrical installation and electrical safety.
• The knowledge to read, understand and produce electrical schematics using e-plan, AutoCAD or similar.
• Fault finding and troubleshooting abilities.
• Basic theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic circuits, electronic racks, cabling and wiring;
• Experience of test and measurement procedures - including use of multimeters, oscilloscopes and specialised RF test equipment.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, a sense of humour and the ability to be a true team player.
• Excellent skills in both written and oral English. The ability to speak or learn Swedish would be a definite advantage – but is not essential.

If you are able to bring relevant Swedish qualifications to be able to carry out electrical installations, then this would be a real advantage.

What can we offer?
Aside from the opportunity to work at one of only 4 linear accelerator-based Spallation sources on the whole planet, you can also expect:

• An opportunity to contribute to the future discoveries within neutron science.
• A stunning, brand new workplace filled with innovative minds and brilliant people from across the globe.
• A challenging, exciting and high-paced work environment.
• Market competitive compensation that is individual and differentiated according to role, responsibilities, individual skills, abilities, and achievements.
• Benefits including 25 days of annual leave as well as more than 10 days of public holiday and company days off or days with limited working hours.
• Flexible working arrangements and a real work-life balance.
• Relocation support and allowances if needed.
• An excellent quality of life in the highly sought after, family-friendly, beautiful and well-connected Southern Sweden/Greater Copenhagen region.

Duration & Location:
The position is permanent. The role is based in Lund, Sweden and we’d love you to start as soon as possible. It is expected that this role will include occasional shift work (including nights and weekends) as required.

Interested? We sure hope so:
