We currently have a vacancy for a:
Radioactive Waste Technician
Duties:
As a specialist in the nuclear sector, you will join the ILL's Health Physics, Safety and Environment Service (SRSE),
where you will have the following main duties:
. Collecting radioactive waste from various buildings around the facility and from on-site waste producers
. Maintaining waste inventories and ensuring that waste storage areas are kept clean and tidy
. Preparing and conditioning waste in authorised packaging in accordance with the specifications issued
by the waste management agencies ANDRA and CYCLIFE-CENTRACO (sorting, dismantling, cutting-up,
drying, etc.)
. Performing waste characterisation using gamma spectrometry and x-ray inspections of waste drums
. Completing waste package tracking documents
. Preparing and loading radioactive waste packages for transport
. Transporting waste on site
. Raising awareness among and informing on-site waste producers about nuclear waste management.
Qualifications and experience:
. Level 3 to Level 5 technical qualification with a specialisation in radioactive waste management,
qualified decontamination technician, or equivalent
. Knowledge and experience of working in a radioactive environment
. Mechanical skills, particularly in metal cutting and dismantling techniques
. Writing skills (preparation of technical reports and procedures)
. Knowledge of gamma-ray spectrometry measurements would be an advantage
. Certification to operate material handling and lifting equipment (forklift truck, overhead crane) is a plus
. Rigorous application of procedures and a meticulous approach to your work.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from
outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of French and/or English. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.

Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required; the post involves the use of protective equipment
and the wearing of anti-contamination clothing.
Post based in Grenoble and subject to administrative screening.
