R&D Engineer within Power Technology at Vattenfall R&D
Do you want to be part of developing grid solutions for the future energy landscape? Do you want to be a force in taking Vattenfall forward in this direction enabling our grids to make room for new active customers, include higher amounts of weather dependent power production, and speed up the communication and control of our new grids and substations?
Are you looking for a diverse working place characterized by team spirit, cooperation, flexibility, and an open atmosphere? If yes: we have a great opportunity for you as our new R&D Engineer!
As an R&D Engineer we need you to strengthen our Power Technology Section by working to develop and use new technology in the distribution system towards better and more efficient control of power system components, grid control, understanding new components, grid codes, SCADA systems, and monitoring of the grid. The competence is crucial for Vattenfall in many areas such as several upcoming Microgrids, digitalization of substations, as well as autonomous customer control. The position is needed for strategic development and business case analysis for new grid solutions such as efficient communication and control, protection systems, and digitalization.
Your responsibilities as R&D Engineer
In this existing R&D Engineer role, you will have the opportunity to be a part of the Power Technology team that delivers major and often challenging assignments together with other engineers from other teams, experts from Vattenfall, and consultants. Moreover, the position leads your own customer-focused projects including communicating and developing customer relationships with Business Areas such as Distribution.
The R&D program Flexible Substation has the need of an engineer with knowledge about technical IT (automation, communication, and handling of information) for equipment. In this team you will work together with specialists in Substation Automation Systems (SAS) and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to develop concepts for handling future demands on the electrical power system. Common tasks that your role will cover together with the team: Requirement Engineering, Solution and Concept development, Information modeling (from components to business process), Business Case Studies, as well as specify, plan and execute Proof Of Concept (POC) and pilot projects.
In the R&D program Flexible Substation we test future communication in the distribution system, verify, and implement it. We are a forerunner in this technical field.
Your qualifications and personal skills as R&D Engineer
We see that the successful candidate holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Power Technology, or similar. You should have an IT and communication profile. While it is not a must, it is advantageous that you have a minimum of three years of experience in design and installation in distribution grids or energy industries. Since you will be working in an international, diverse environment, fluency in English is a must, while a good command of Swedish is not a requirement but will be considered as a merit.
On the personal level, you are analytical, committed and self-driven with good communication and interpersonal skills. You are open and able to communicate and present clearly at all levels. You are able to develop rough ideas and ambitions into concrete and successful projects. As the work involves extensive interaction both internally and with external partners and suppliers, a good understanding of commercial aspects and an ability to establish and maintain relationships and networks is key. A passion for new technology we believe is a necessity for this role.
Location: Flexible Stockholm, Älvkarleby or Kolding (Denmark).
