Sandvik Coromant R&D Materials and Processes in Västberga, Stockholm employs about 150 people with more than 20 nationalities. We are part of the business area Sandvik Machining Solutions within the global industrial group Sandvik and work with development of hard materials for metal cutting.
The materials laboratory has processing equipment for production of test materials on both lab and pilot study scales, as well as advanced equipment for testing and analysis. We are now looking for an R&D Engineer to strengthen our team working with Surface and Edge Treatments for cutting tools.
Key performance areas
As an R&D Engineer you develop methods and processes for edge preparation and surface treatments for cutting tools, as well as surface and edge measurements and characterization. You will take an active part in product development projects to deliver high performance products to our customers and in research projects to strengthen our knowledge and competencies.
You will also:
- Develop a network with many global contacts:
- Contribute to the organization with experience and knowledge on an operational level by continually developing your own knowledge and expertise
- Participate in the long-term strategy of the organization and be part of the decision process within your area of responsibility
- Evaluate and monitor new technology and equipment, as well as patents, relevant for this area
- Participate in the prototyping process to ensure the work-flow delivers high quality prototypes with respect to grades and micro geometry within a short time
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Master's in Engineering or the equivalent, and work experience from materials, R&D or metal cutting. A PhD in Chemistry, Material Science or Physics is an advantage, as is work experience from edge and surface treatments and knowledge/experience of tribology and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). Excellent communication skills in English, both in writing and in speaking, are a prerequisite for the position, and knowledge of Swedish and/or other languages is advantageous.
You are an analytical and strategic problem-solver who is both detail-oriented and thorough, with a focus on results and delivering to deadlines. You have the ability to work in a lab environment and with experiments. Further, you gladly take initiative, have good cooperative abilities and are outgoing and good at networking. Also, we are looking for someone who?s enthusiastic about approaching our work with fresh eyes and providing new input and suggestions.
