In this role you will be part of Technology & Solutions Development, within the Power Grids division, in Ludvika. The MACH Control & Protection Platform R&D department is a part of ABB Technology & Solutions Development and is responsible for the development of state-of-the-art control system platform for HVDC and FACTS applications. The MACH C&P department in Ludvika has around 70 employees, focusing mainly on Hardware and Software design working in close collaboration with the global MACH C&P organization. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things, to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems. Your responsibilities
You will be responsible for product development focusing on enclosure architecture.
The team works with challenging tasks in an agile set-up. High level of collaboration is required with all stakeholders where speed of response is key. You will have the responsibility to create robust designs within the cost and time limits.
The work tasks require deep understanding of mechanical core competences, mechatronics and a basic understanding of electronics. The work includes theoretical as well as practical tasks and the design work includes requirement management and development of design specifications.
This role requires a product lifecycle perspective from prototyping to series production. You will be considering aspects like reliability, thermal design, maintainability, service, ergonomics, tooling, and manufacturing.
We work in a modern environment where both rapid prototyping and productification takes place. To our help we have modern tools and labs for the complete hardware development cycle, from early prototype testing to final system verification. You will have the responsibility of your design in all these steps.

Your background
You have a deep understanding in Mechanical Engineering and more specifically mechanics as integrated part of electronics products.
To be considered for this position, you will require a proven experience in enclosure design of industrial electronic units.
Hopefully you have already obtained a wide knowledge within the area from a university education preferably in Mechanical Engineering as well as experience from professional development processes and manufacturing.
You are equally familiar with theoretical as well as practical tasks and are used to be working from requirements and design specifications.
Spoken and written skills in English are mandatory, fluency in Swedish is considered an advantage, but not a demand.
A successful candidate has a deep interest in mechanical enclosure design for circuit board assemblies
5+ years of experience in design, documentation and/or fabrication of mechanical products
Experience on enclosure types, e.g. sheet metal, 19” rack, IP rated, rugged, metal cast
Experience on circuit board protection methods, e.g. conformal coating, potting-encapsulation, sealing
Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Solidworks, CATIA, NX, PTC Creo, ProEngineer, etc.
Experience in geometric tolerancing & dimensioning
Proven experience on product design and verification with aspects as form-fit-function, thermal management, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability, availability, maintainability, ergonomics etc
Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) of mechanical products/systems
Experience on import/export of circuit board assembly models and electronic data exchange between Electrical CAD & Mechanical CAD & Product Life Cycle Management systems
Experience with advanced PLM tools
Experience on electronic interface components like connectors, LEDs, switches etc.
Basic knowledge on electronic components like processors, transistors, diodes, capacitors, etc
Knowledge on environmental compliance information (RoHS, Reach...) for mechanical enclosures and components
Strong analytical & problem solving skills
Practical mindset for fast implementation of conceptual ideas
Experience from reliability analysis such as MTBF, FMEA and FTA is preferred
Familiarity with agile development methods is preferred
