At Vattenfall R&D we are looking to strengthen our Energy Systems & Processes team. The focus in this role will be on process engineering and chemical engineering of primarily Vattenfall’s heat assets but also applications connected to decarbonization of industries.
District heating, heat balance and large-scale combustion technologies are key areas in Vattenfall’s operations and this role will include developing solutions to further optimize these assets and transform them to become fully fossil free. We are looking for someone with the ability to develop process and chemical models for applications such as the introduction of carbon capture technologies in combustion plants.
Understanding how electricity and district heating sectors are joined via themes such as heat pumps and overall energy flexibility will also be included in the role and you will be part of analyzing energy system solutions and undertake techno-economical assessments of various applications. Another focus area will be around decarbonizing industries and to for example develop process models for the integration of hydrogen in industry processes.

We work in agile teams close to the business of Vattenfall. The corporate R&D unit employs 130 people located in three different offices in Sweden and Denmark. Your responsibilities as R&D Engineer - Process Engineering
You will be responsible for undertaking chemical and process modelling of key applications in our heat operations such as the introduction of carbon capture technologies, optimization of heat storage solutions and developed heat balance solutions in next generation heating and cooling systems. Pairing this with techno-economical assessments will also be one of your responsibilities. You will be responsible for carrying out similar modelling and assessments also for other applications, for example the integration of hydrogen in industry processes. Furthermore, you will work with energy system optimization of cities and conduct modelling and analyses or various aspects connected to this.
We expect you to have an interest in developing to become an assignment or project manager and eventually take on responsibility for leading various tasks and assignments in line with the Vattenfall project governance model.

Your qualifications and personal skills as R&D Engineer - Process Engineering
• You hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering.
• You have good understanding of large-scale combustion technologies and experience of process and/or chemical modelling tools such as Aspen or Ebsilon.
• You are engaged by the understanding and transformation of our energy landscape and you are eager to in detail understand the complexity of the heat business and how it relates to the rest of the energy market and a circular society.
• You have strong analytical skills and a mindset and interest in addressing topics strategically.
• You have a desire to structure and take responsibility for driving topics, be it small or large.
• You are communicative and able to synthesise and explain complex topics, as well as self-driven and naturally reach out to find your way.
• You are comfortable in understanding and maintaining relationships with stakeholders internally and externally.
• You are a true team player who values the ideas and input from others as well as supports your team members with your knowledge and actions.
• You are keen to ‘learn by doing’ and are able to handle a steep learning curve.
• You have an interest in developing to become a project manager or team leader.
• You are passionate about wanting to create change.

Location
You will be working in the R&D department of Energy Systems & Processes and the location for this position is preferably Stockholm or Älvkarleby.
