NKT, a world-leading supplier of cables for the energy sector, is investing to reach further success in innovation and R&D. As part of this investment, NKT has established a Technology Consulting center in Västerås through acquisition of parts of ABB’s Swedish Corporate Research Center. From the site in Västerås, technical experts and scientists have worked with industries worldwide in cross-disciplinary R&D projects and technical investigations, for more than one hundred years.

Play a key role in the innovation and development of HV insulation technology
As an R&D High Voltage Physics and Engineering Expert you will be part of the Electrical Simulation & Test team at the Technology Consulting center.
You will contribute significantly to successful project results in technology and/or product development by identifying, proposing and implementing innovative solutions. You will get use of your unique physical, thermodynamic and electrical experimental analysis and modelling knowledge to define and predict material behaviour under specific external electrical and thermal stresses.
In addition to the above you will support strategic corporate technology direction by using in-depth technical expertise in own research area(s) to drive and initiate research work and ensure innovative solutions with customer values.
Your primary tasks will be:
Modelling and Simulation of dielectric, electrical field distribution, thermodynamic and mass transport phenomena in materials. Your contribution will be key to allow future design of High Voltage and Medium Voltage products.
Development of theory for Direct Current (DC) electric field dynamics based on chemical composition, dielectric properties, thermal gradients and electric field distribution.
Increase comprehension of electrical phenomena in insulation systems, both theoretically and experimentally.
Be the technical leader in projects aiming to reach high satisfaction for both internal or external customers.
Validate experimentally electro-thermal models through suggestion of key experiments to be performed together with team members.

Our portfolio covers a wide range of high and medium voltage cutting edge products. The team core competence spans different fields in electrical engineering & testing, measurement technology and material property simulations including Molecular Dynamics and Density Functional Theory (DFT), with emphasis on high-voltage cable applications. Through the range of different R&D projects and consulting assignments, there will be great opportunities to build a global network of technical partners and business units. You will have the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment with a keen interest in creative innovation. Besides this you will have access to extensive, in-house electrical testing facilities as well as state-of-the-art private cloud for high performance computing.

Analytical, goal-oriented and communicative expert
We are looking for our next expert! To be that one you have a technical MSc or PhD in either High Voltage Physics, High Voltage Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Thermo & Fluid dynamics or Physical chemistry. Besides this you have around three years’ experience as an R&D scientist or similar with a broad knowledge of methods used in material property simulations.
To thrive in this role you are goal-oriented with a high sense of responsibility delivering your work with great accuracy. You are motivated in an innovative environment and keen on reaching our common strategic and operational goals.
