We are looking for an R&D Lead Engineer to join our highly skilled R&D team at ABB Metallurgy Center of Excellence in Västerås, Sweden. In this role you will help steer the direction of control system development and applications at ABB Metallurgy, you will solve applied technology problem and develop ways to more effectively solve them. You will also contribute to the digitalization roadmap at ABB Metallurgy.
Your responsibilities
Technical lead for control system development in both R&D projects and delivery projects.
On-site commissioning of R&D projects and selected delivery projects.
Ensuring that projects are aligned with targets and coordinating activities, while maintaining a good knowledge of and applying R&D processes and tools.
Contributing ideas and a scientific way of working to R&D projects and proposing follow-up projects and activities based on new ideas.
Spreading your technical/scientific knowledge and assisting colleagues in applying specialist processes and tools to ensure results.
Participating in networks in your research area, including relevant academic networks.
Submitting patent applications to strengthen ABB’s strategic position and helping to safeguard ABB's intellectual property.
Your background
A Master of Science or PhD degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent together with at least 5 years’ experience of developing and deploying control systems with MATLAB/Simulink.
Data analysis (preferably with machine learning experience).
Programming skills in e.g. C/C++, Python, Fortran or similar are meritorious.
Knowledge of multi-physics simulations (incl. fluid flow and electromagnetics) is a plus.
You express yourself well both verbally and in writing in English, and preferably in Swedish.
As a person you are analytical, careful and structured and you work proactively with focus on delivery within deadlines and high level of quality.
You are creative and seek solutions to every challenge and you have a natural willingness and ability to cooperate with others to reach common goals.
As our business is global the position includes some international travelling.
